So, over five years later I'm finally going back to one of my first fanfics, first posted back in 2010, right in the middle of my cringiest teenage girl days. So yeah, this was very much in need of a massive edit (and rewrite). I meant to start on this back in July, but put off a bit longer than I meant to, but here we are at last. Hopefully take 2 will go better than the original, and maybe I'll even finish this time around!

Starfire

Prologue

I'm falling. I'm falling and there's nothing I can do about it. I will probably die, too, which does nothing to help me. The witches will likely cut out my heart and eat it.

The star resisted the urge to scream as she plummeted from the sky towards the ground. Suddenly, she realized that she wasn't falling towards the world that most stars ended up in when they fell. That only frightened her more. She had spent her life watching Earth, and had only glanced towards this one a few times. The ground grew closer as the air rushed around her, and she gasped as she crashed into the ground, the sudden impact forcing the breath out of her. She rolled onto her back, gasping for breath, her body aching. Mercifully, nothing seemed broken, though how she had managed to avoid that was beyond her. She pulled herself up into a sitting position, reviewing her situation in her mind.

Great. Not only have I fallen from my home in the sky, but I am in another world, where no star has ever been in before. I've seen this one though, and there is magic everywhere here, no wall dividing it. I have no need to fear ending up as a lump of rock, like Yvaine nearly did. However, I will likely have other difficulties...

As she sat there, wondering what would happen to her, she glanced up and saw a figure watching her from the edge of the crater she was in. She stiffened as the stranger began to make their way towards her, her mind racing with the stories she'd heard about stars who'd had their hearts cut out and eaten simply so mortals could gain a form of immortality.

"Who are you? Stay away from me!" she shrieked, attempting to move away and wincing at the sharp pain from what she could only assume were multiple bruises.

"Its alright, I won't hurt you. I'm here to help."

Hesitantly, she looked up at the figure. They were tall and blond, with pointy ears. An elf?

"How do I know I can trust you?" she demanded, trying to appear brave despite her initial panic.

The blond elf sighed. "Did you see what did this?" he asked, gesturing around them at the crater.

She managed to stand, although it was painful. While her ankle hadn't been broken, she suspected she had twisted it.

"As a matter of fact, I did. A star fell, and to be more specific, you're staring at her." she stated, watching him slowly comprehend what she had just stated. To his credit, he managed to keep a rather neutral expression throughout, though his eyes betrayed the subtle hints of shock and confusion.

"You did this?" he questioned, seeking clarification.

"Yes. When I fell from the sky."

"You're a star?"

"Again, yes. And I suspect that you're an elf, then?"

"I am an elf. And I don't understand how you're a star," he replied, narrowing his eyes slightly. "Aren't they supposed to shine? And not talk?"

"You know, for an elf, you aren't very intelligent," she replied, growing annoyed. Unlike the majority of Earth, this world had magic. How could they not realize that stars were living creatures? Did they just not fall in this world?

"Well, what's your name then?" the elf asked her, frowning.

"Why do you need to know that?"

"Because you are probably just confused. You're likely from Rohan or Gondor. If I know your name, then it'll be easier to guess where you're from and bring you back there."

"I have no idea where either of those places are, but if you must know my name, its Elaine."

"Elaine," said the elf slowly. "That isn't a name that most humans have."

"For the last time, I am not a human, I'm a star!" Elaine yelled at the elf. "Just how ignorant are you?"

"I'm actually thinking quite the same thing, only about you." he sighed. "Its a good thing I'm headed to Imladris. You need to see someone skilled in healing. Lord Elrond should be able to help you."

"Maybe this Lord Elrond person can help you too, because you're the one in serious need of help if you can't get it through your head that I am a star!" Elaine shouted.

The elf simply ignored her and lifted her up, and began to head towards the edge of the crater.

"What are you doing? Put me down right now!" Elaine cried out in shock.

"I'm getting you out of here. We need to get you some help. Now."

"You must be the most arrogant, idiotic elf in the world!"

"Its great to see that you think so highly of me," the elf said sarcastically.

Elaine couldn't help it any longer. She screamed, letting out her anger and frustration at the arrogant elf that she appeared to be stuck with. She could only hope that this 'Lord Elrond' would be more reasonable.
