The loud train whistle blew, as the Hogwarts Express steamed off out of view from Platform 9 ¾. It zoomed in to see young Luna Lovegood, in her third year of attending Hogwarts school of Witchcraft and Wizardry. She was sitting there by herself, her face deep into The Quibbler. The articles which were published by her father, that many fellow wizards honestly saw as complete and utter Rubbish in them. She enjoyed reading them though, it was fun to taunt her friends.

She didn't notice, but the door to her compartment opened. In stepped Hermione Granger, a smart and talented young girl in the same year of Hogwarts as Luna is. She was very acceled for her year, being smarter than a majority of the kids within the school… well, for the first three years of course. She saw Luna there, and a soft little smile crept onto her face. "Hi Luna! You don't mind if I sit in here with you, do you?" Her eyes were shining as the sun shined in through the window next to them.

Luna looked up, a small little smile came creeping onto her face. "Hey Hermione, yeah. Feel free to sit here, I don't mind a little company." She softly giggled, and moved her stuff out of the way for Hermione to sit next to her. Luna seemed much more happier than normal, but who knew why that was for now. It was Loony Lovegood, you know.

Hermione noticed her smile, and took that as a sign that she was welcome. She noticed Luna being nice, and sat down next to her. "Shame the Holidays are over already, but I love going to Hogwarts either way! Quite exciting stuff we learn, you know." She had a cheeky little smile on her face, her eyes still gleaming.

Luna couldn't help but laugh, her smile widening a bit. "Some if it is interesting, other things can be… boring." She shrugged, putting The Quibbler down as she talked to Hermione. "But, most things we learn are pretty fun to learn in general, ya know?" Her smile was pleasant, and warming to the girl who was next to her.

Hermione couldn't help but let out a chuckle, but she noticed that being around Luna seemed to make her quite happy for once. She thought it was odd, but seeing Luna happy was a nice thing to see. She always had a pretty smile, never told her that though. She thought to herself.

Luna's head was cocked onto its side, and her eyes were closed a little in confusion. "Why aren't you sitting with Harry and Ron? I thought that they were your friends?" She sighed. Not that I have many of those, I usually see her around with Harry though. The thought echoed in her mind, as if she were standing in a cave.

Hermione flushed a little, searching in the back of her mind for an excuse that she sat next to Luna. She had done it on purpose, but was a little embarrassed to tell Luna exactly WHY she sat next to her. "Oh, it's just… you're such a nice person to talk to. So I assumed I should sit with you for today!" Her voice was shaky, her words somewhat being mumbled.

Luna seemed slightly confused at this, but just shrugged it off as Hermione being nervous for going back to school. "It was nice of you to come and talk to me, I appreciate having somebody to talk to every once in awhile, not many people realize that at times." She laughed, but her eyes were full of sorrow as her voice turned soft.

Hermione frowned, and gave Luna a small but tight hug. "Hey, it's alright. I'm sure some people around here love to be around you!" She smiled. If only I could tell her that I do. She thought, as an image of her and Luna being together happily popped up into her head.

Luna just smiled back, but flushed slightly at the hug. "Well, thanks Hermione. I appreciate you telling me that, nice to know somebody cares about me." Her smile was warm and welcoming now, her voice seeming much more cheerful now that Hermione had assured her about her friend issue.

Hermione couldn't help but having a warm and cheerful smile appearing on her face. "Well, anything for you-" She paused. "I meant, I'd do it for any friend, you know." She slowly nodded with her smile turning nervous, and she shrugged as she decided to put her book down to take a quick nap.

Luna sighed softly, but smiled at Hermione as she was napping. She put a hand on her shoulder. "Thanks Hermione, I owe you one." Her eyes were soft, and her heart was beating quickly in her chest. She slowly closed her eyes as well, while the Whistle roared throughout the night as the train was now traveling through the Scottish Highlands..
