Hannah's Madness
A lonely figure was walking the hallways of a dark manor. It was storming outside, yet the figure didn't realize it. The figure is Hannah, a maid employed by the lord of the manor, Alois Trancy. She thought of her young master with a frown on her face, keeping her eye to the floor. She had lost her eye to the young man, the boy enraged by the fact that she looked upon him.
Hannah looked up from the floor for a brief moment as she saw her master, Alois, rush into his bedroom. As usual, Claude followed behind him at an even pace. The sound of the rain filled the manor with a small tapping noise that was rather relaxing. Hannah knew it would take a good ten minutes before Alois would finally fall asleep. He always tries to get a reaction out of Claude by messing up his bedroom, or unbuttoning his pajamas. So, it took him longer to be put to bed for the night.
Hannah glanced over at the nearby windows with a frown on her face. The tapping rain made the windows foggy and gloomy. As she stared, she soon saw her reflection in the window. The sight of the bandages on her face frightened her, her remaining pale blue eye growing wide. Had she really grown so frightening because she lost her eye?
"...That's right...a maid should never look at her master," Hannah said, repeating what Alois said that fateful day she lost her eye. She continued to stare at her deformed refection, unsure of what to do now. That is, until she heard Claude leave Alois' chambers. She watched as the butler walked away, holding a candlestick in one hand to light his path.
Hannah's remaining eye narrowed as she looked back at her reflection, a slow smile appearing on her face. The bandages fell from her face, showing nothing but darkness where her eye should be. She slowly pulled out a small kitchen knife from her apron, kept there to protect herself in case Alois attacked her again.
"But, what if a master looks upon a maid? I think he deserves the same punishment..."
This was written when the first few episodes of the second season were out and we learned more about Alois' servants. I truly felt bad for Hannah, and wondered why she would put up with such treatment. A normal person would snap under such treatment in the workplace, so wouldn't Hannah snap after seeing herself without an eye?
