Today was no ordinary day, but no one seemed to remember. Today was Gaara's birthday, and, like every year, he was spending it alone. No cake, not even a 'happy birthday, Gaara' from anyone. He knew he shouldn't have gotten his hopes up.
He had thought that this year just might be different, now that he had everyone's favorite hyperactive blonde for a boyfriend, even if he was in Konoha. Gaara had hoped that he might come to visit him, like he had asked, but as the day went on, and the blonde still didn't show, Gaara slowly gave up hope of seeing his boyfriend.
The red head flopped down on his bed and closed his eyes.
"Hi, Gaara!' said a cheerful male voice.
The older boy opened his eyes to see a head floating above his. Before he had the time to register who it was the figure was thrown back by his sand.
"Gyah!!" said the boy struggling with the sand, "I come all the way from Konoha to see you, and this is what I get?!"
It suddenly clicked in his mind just who the other boy was.
"Naruto?" he asked, not entirely sure it was the blonde boy.
"Who else would I be? Sasuke?"
Gaara stood up and put the sand back in the gourd that rested next to his bed. No sooner had he turned around to put the cork into the gourd than he was attacked from behind by the younger boy.
"I missed you so much!!" he said, tightening his grip on the older boy.
Gaara leaned back into the embrace, "I missed you too."
"You thought I wasn't going to come today, didn't you?"
Gaara glanced guiltily at a random spot on the floor, "Well…no. T mean, it's almost eight o'clock at night."
"I would have been here earlier, but I got lost." he said with a sheepish grin, releasing his grip on the older boy, "So why did you want me to come?"
"Huh?"
"Well, you said you wanted me to come over, but you didn't say why." he said as hetook off his jacket and laid it down on the bed.
"Did you not listen to a word I said?"
"Heh heh." Naruto laughed, "I was just kidding." He wrapped his arms around the older boy's waist, and kissed him on the cheek, "Happy birthday, Gaara!!"
