A/N This is my first FF ever. I have been a reader for 7 years and am dipping my toe in the waters. Really, I want to be a beta so this is a means to an end. Any feedback appreciated. I don't own GG but I do own a little chiweenie dog.
"Mom?"
"Yeah?"
"I'm pregnant."
Rory hadn't meant to just spit it out like that. Her mother's wedding – the Stars Hollow event of the decade - was only hours away. Thanks to Kirk, everything was ready to go and there was nothing left to do but sleep and get pretty later in the day. The good people of Stars Hollow, save for the few who witnessed the low-pressure legal nuptials at midnight, were still in their beds. Rory and Lorelai should have been sleeping too, but they were still sitting on the gazebo steps, basking in the glow of successfully pulling off the spontaneous elopement.
After so many months of unrest and uncertainty, there was one thing she could count on – those two pink lines on the pregnancy test were the clearest signs of what was to come in her life. Though she knew on a logical level that she had options, she also knew in her heart that she would choose motherhood.
Lorelai opened her mouth to speak but was interrupted. "But wait, there's more," Rory said with a sigh. "It's Logan's."
"This is where I tell you that it's going to be alright and you might be freaking out internally but you're going to be a great mom," said Lorelai
"But…?" asked Rory, hesitant to hear harsh words.
"It's going to be alright." Lorelai leaned over and wrapped her arms around her daughter. "You're going to be a great mom." She squeezed Rory a bit, and then whispered, "Seriously. Trust your gut. My mom gut says that you've got this." She leaned back a bit and then smiled at Rory's serious face. "And hello? Look at your role model! Awesomeness here, awesomeness there," she said, gesturing to Rory.
"I haven't told him just yet. I needed to talk to you first," said Rory. She sat, twisting a bit of pink wedding ribbon hanging off the planter to her left. "I don't want to mess up his life any more. But that whole line of thinking is just ridiculous. This is his life, too. Literally!" Tears begin to slide down her cheek. "I thought it took time for the hormones to kick in! I can't even drown my sorrows in booze anymore." She dropped her head into her lap and let her clothes absorb the tears. "He should marry Odette. I don't want to change that. I mean, in a way, I do love him. I always have. But we're not good for each other. Clearly," she said gesturing to herself.
"One day at a time," said Lorelai. "Just take one day at a time, kiddo."
"You're disappointed, aren't you?"
"Sweetie. When I was your age, I had a SIXTEEN year-old kid. She turned out alright."
Rory smiled.
"Besides, Paris would be the first to tell you that your eggs are in their prime RIGHT NOW."
"True"
"She's going to be pissed that a Huntsberger baby was conceived by anyone without going through her."
"Also true," said Rory. "I'll tell her it's a tumor."
"It's not a tuuuuu-maaaa," said Lorelai in her best Arnold voice.
"I'm starving. Need food. Now."
"Let's Roll"
