Attack of the Fuzzies

ZT: Hi everyone! I was in a random mood today and decided to write a story about my favorite monkey tailed boy and his first encounter with a certain fuzzy foe.

Kuja: I thought I was your favorite monkey tailed person.

ZT: You're older than me; you're a man.

Kuja: That works.

ZT: Anyway, I don't own FF9. Enjoy!

No Petting the Fuzzies!

"Zidane, I really don't think you should be doing that…?" Dagger warned as she watched her monkey tailed friend crawling through the tall grass from a safe distance. The group had spotted a small island out in the middle of the ocean, and had decided to get some training in before they reached their next destination. Since it was away from most civilizations, the group had expected to come across some pretty tough creatures, but all they had seen so far were little things that were very…cute. When Amarant recognized the little creatures, he immediately named them for the group and walked right back in the ship, saying he'd pass on training this time. Curious about the reason why the mercenary acted as he did, Freya had followed him in, followed by Vivi who couldn't find it in his heart to train on such adorable creatures, and Quina who decided to look in the ship for something edible.

Zidane on the other hand, wanted to see if they were as fuzzy as they looked. "Zidane quit being a dummy and come back here; it's still a monster after all!" Eiko exclaimed, stomping her foot in emphasis of how serious she was.

"Are you seeing this thing? I think a Mu does more damage than this little guy," the young thief replied, his eyes shining with excitement that the little creatures both didn't seem to know where he was and weren't paying any attention to the noise the others and he were making.

"Quit being a fool and return at once; did it not seem odd to you that Amarant returned to the ship as soon as he saw those creatures. And this Island is named "Vile Island"! Does that not make you wonder why it received such a name?" Steiner warned as well, staying near the two summoners.

Zidane tuned out the bumbling knight. Although he would have been cautious around any other creature, these things not only looked harmless; they were cute and fuzzy! Plus they were munching on flowers, so it wasn't like they were man eaters or anything. Suddenly, his hand brushed against something and he heard a small yelp. He turned his head quickly and realized it was another of the creatures hiding in the tall grass like he was. He got to his feet, "Hey these guys are fuzzy!"

"Um…Zidane?" The tone in Dagger's voice made him suddenly aware of his surroundings. The one creature he had startled was now staring at him angrily, as were the others that he was originally going after. The first one began to glow and the word "Comet" flashed through his mind. Zidane suddenly realized his mistake, "Uh oh…"

A couple flying space rocks, a few curagas, and a desperate flee later, Zidane was getting patched up by the two white mages on the ship. Amarant couldn't help but smirk at the scenario, "So, what have we learned?"

The thief sent a glare his way, then winced as Dagger started focusing on a new bruise, "Even though they're cute and fuzzy, don't pet the yans."
