Chapter 1: A Prelude to Peril
Beijing, China East - West Nuclear Disarmament Conference April 7, 2005: 7:15 PM
Having ousted the regime of Saddam Hussein and ended the threat of attack from the government of Iraq, the U.S. turned to more pressing matters. North Korea and several other eastern nations have achieved nuclear weapons capabilities. The U.N. had called into session an emergency conference to deal with this matter, occurring in Beijing, China.
U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell and North Korean Minister of State Jong Wan-Il shook hands at the podium as Secretary Powell began to speak, "Ladies and gentlemen, distinguished members of the North Korean Cabinet, I am honored to be speaking at this historic meeting. As you well know, the value of peace far outweighs the price of war, but peace is hard to come by these days. Now with the threat of nuclear war, this issue became more present than ever. The only way to truly stop the chances of war is the bilateral disarmament of nuclear weapons. I put before you this path of action in the hopes that we can end these negotiations peacefully. Thank you."
The deliberations pressed on for the next four hours. As a peaceful decision seemed to be imminent, General Wang Li Tsu of the Army of the People's Republic of China stood up to excuse himself. "If you'll excuse me, I have a previous engagement that I must attend to," he said to the president of the Chinese Security Council. As General Tsu left the building, he called for the guards to follow him.
As he went behind the building, a nervous man stepped out of the shadows and began speaking, "General, sir, we should abort the mission, it has become too risky. What if someone should discover our plot?"
The man had by now, annoy the general. He ripped the briefcase the man was holding from his hands. He than slapped the man and, as the man began to rub his face, the general began talking, "You should know better than to defy me! This mission will be completed, and on time. We have been planning for this event for one year. My man is on the roof, waiting to put a virus in the building's radar system. After checking the scans, the computers will show a North Korean MiG fighter making a close pass by the building. The Americans will assume that it was the Koreans that attacked and retaliate. War will break out, North Korea and the U.S. will annihilate each other, and China will arise as the new world superpower!' With that, he signaled to his agent on the roof to commence the operation. General Tsu placed the briefcase beside the wall and walked off.
Suddenly, a man clad in a black suit, stepped out of the shadows and walked behind the radar operator. "Don't you think that it's past your bedtime?" he asked as he knocked the man out cold. "Sweet dreams," he added as he walked off.
The man came down from the roof and spoke to the man waiting below, CIA agent Jack Wade, "Wade, everything is okay up on the roof. Send the technical crew up for the equipment, now where are the explosives?"
"Got it right here Jimbo," Wade said as he handed British Agent 007 General Tsu's briefcase, "as to why he used a warhead from one of our sidewinder missiles, I'll have no idea."
"I'm assuming you disarmed it, right?" 007 inquired.
"Oh, no! I never would have thought to do that..." Wade said sarcastically.
"Alright, alright, just making sure," 007 laughed, "I'm going after Tsu. I'll need two of your best men."
"No problemo Jimbo," said Wade. "You just be careful."
"Don't worry, I will," finished James.
