Summary: Not all missions are as simple as they tell you in the briefing.

"One Simple Mission"
By: J.T. Magnus, "Turbo"
I deploy from the A.P.C. and hit the ground running, trusting my unit to follow. The enemy bunker's in sight and in range, but our orders are to take it, not destroy it. To my left I see Gung-ho kick down a section of the fence as we reach it, giving us the opening we need. We keep running, taking down Cobras with every step.
"MEDIC!" Lifeline skids to a stop and, with Leatherneck giving him cover, begins to treat the gunshot wound Sci-fi just took.
As we pass another building, Tunnel Rat and I each pluck a grenade from our gear and toss them into a gathering of Motor-Vipers that didn't see us coming.
The unit barely avoids becoming swiss cheese-ala-Cobra Troopers as we near the bunker, they came from around the side of one of the other buildings in the complex. They didn't know that I believe in guardian angels… specifically the group of them perched in the trees surrounding the complex equipped with high-powered rifles; Low-Light and his greenshirt snipers.
When we reach the door to the bunker, Tunnel Rat disables the lock as I motion Shockwave up to take the door down. As the S.W.A.T. Specialist goes inward with the door, the rest of us pivot to provide him cover-fire.
The inside of the bunker is empty, all the Cobras are outside dealing with the other members of the mission unit, all eight of them and the dozen Greenies. Keeping my eyes open and rifle sweeping to keep any unwanted visitors away from her, I motion for Firewall to get to work.
Minutes later we have the information and are moving out when I hear it…
"VICTORY TO COBRA!"
I didn't hear the bullet as it slammed into my back, but I saw the others turn and fire behind me. I saw the other pick me up and begin carrying me. Next thing I knew I was in the A.P.C. with Lifeline hovering over me, I lost consicness and when I came to….
I threw the cover off and went to the back door to let the dog out. While she was outside, I'd be getting ready for school.
Comparing my dream the night before to reality, I think I preferred getting shot.
