"I'll… miss you," Lee whispered.
"Me too," Clementine replied.
Clementine stood up, and Lee thought she stood higher than ever before. Maybe it was because of his sickness, maybe because of the angle he was in, or maybe because it was true.
The only thing colorful was Clementine's olive eyes. He thought they looked brighter than ever. In fact, it was the brightest thing; all the color was starting to fade.
"I… I can't do it, Lee," Clem lowered the gun.
"You… can do it, Clem. You can do it," Lee encouraged.
Clem shook the tears from her eyes. How was she to kill him, the man who stood by and made sure she was safe, the man who stopped her from eating Mark, the man who risked his life to save her? How can you do that?
"I… just can't. I don't want to," Clem cried.
"Clem, if you don't, I'll become one of them. Do you want me to? Do you want me to eat flesh? Do you want me to hurt more people? Do you want me to… suffer?" Lee asked.
Clem shook her head. "No. I just can't."
Lee looked at her straight in the eye. "Sweet Pea, you can do this. If you do, I'll always be with you. I'll protect you. If you don't, I can't protect you ever again. Do you understand?"
"Yes," Clem sniffed. She raised the pistol straight up to Lee's head.
And Lee had to say it.
"I… love… you..." Lee said, looking up into her eyes, the only color left.
"I love you, too, Lee," Clem responded.
Lee kept his eyes on those beautiful, olive eyes.
Clem pulled the trigger.
All Lee could remember was the noise, her eyes…
And saying the truth.
