To anyone who may look at the pair, it would immediately spring to the onlooker's mind that this was a very unusual couple indeed. The taller one had vivid green eyes and wild red hair that seemed to be matched only by his personality. Two small tear-dropped tattoos also adorned his face and he seemed fond of touching them briefly in his rare moments of peaceful thoughtfulness before his more dominant flamboyance over came him. The other was obviously a few years younger and still boyish in appearance. While he was short in stature and had enviable blond hair that was spiked just so that it gave the impression that he either spent considerable time styling it or it was swept that it was just that way when he woke up in the morning, the first thing you noticed about him was his intrepid blue eyes that seemed to pierce through anyone who gave the slightest inkling of disproving of their relationship.

Oh, it wasn't really all that obvious that these two were together in the biblical sense, except to those who knew them and those who were looking for the discreet and telltale signs. The redhead's long, spindly fingers seemed to linger on the blonde's shoulder longer that what was typically socially appropriate between two twenty-something guys, and the blond took to gazing at the taller from the corner of his eyes at any given opportune moment. They shared brief, but heated looks that may have lasted all of milliseconds, but said so much for the two of them.

But they were careful. They knew how an incalculable percentage of the population would view their relationship together. While neither of them were ones to hide who they were, they also did little to provoke the slander that was directed toward many a gay couple, even in today's most declarationally liberal times.

It wasn't just to the public that they were secretive. Even to their families and closest friends, they were hardly forthcoming with the details. But of course those closest to them knew that their practice of withholding the proverbial evidence had little to do with the couple being ashamed, if a single thing at all.

No, they were both of the opinion that what was theirs should absolutely stay theirs. As unbelievable as it was that the redhead was anything but forthcoming in dishing the particulars when he was anything but in every other respect of his existence, it was simply true.

Of course, each of the two had confidants outside the relationship that they permitted a little less discretion with. A particular friend of the redhead's was always one for the gossip, but was also good-natured and surprisingly well-suited at offering advice whenever the couple's relationship hit a rather jagged patch on the road of life. And the blond had that goofy brother of his and the pretty, soft-spoken blonde girl in which to occasionally take the edge off by letting off steam.

They didn't live for extravagance or the approval of others. They simply wished to be together. No, what they lived for was this:

Quite suddenly, the blonde quite openly grasped the hand of the redhead, leading him down a short, but dark alley. Not quite gently, he pressed the taller man into the wall, standing on his toes and wrapping an arm around his back, drawing their lips together for a kiss.

It was short, simple, but left the both of them smiling.

They left the alley still holding hands, the redhead talking animatedly and the blonde listening to him, his smile remaining in place.

This was what they lived for, their little moments together that solely belonged to them.
