"....so that asshole gave me the shift with no customers. I swear, next time I see him I'm going to shove my boot up his ass."
"Mm."
Instead of paying attention to the words behind him, he was watching the flashlight's beam in front of him, his feet always grazing the edge of the light but never stayng inside the light.
Something about the fact that he couldn't keep up with the light mesmerized him.
The waves rolled over again, enveloping his feet, leaving stray patches of sand on his bare feet and he payed no attention to it, his gaze still following the light that illuminated the shells and stray crabs in front of him on the sand.
"Roxas."
Squinting his eyes as something glittered, he stopped, squattng down to look only to have the flashlght's bright beam flicker off. He looked up at his companion with a frown, the moonlight reflecting gently off his sharp face.
"What, Axel? Can you turn the flashlight back on?"
"You afraid of the dark now? Hold on a second while I light this, okay?" A dark cigarette was planted between his thin lips and he pulled out a lighter from hs pocket.
"Ugh," Roxas groaned, standing up, "It's not lke you don't have two hands."
"Don't yell at me about my technique," Axel replied incredulously as he raised an eyebrow, "It's not like you're the one lighting it. You don't smoke."
Roxas scoffed in reply, snatching the bright yellow flashlight from under Axels' armpit, "I don't need to smoke. I get enough of it already without having to do it directly you know."
Axel snickered a little as the lighter's flame light up his face for a brief moment, before he tucked it back away safely in his pocket. He blew a perfume-scented smoke back in Roxas's direction. "You mean like this?" He teased.
"Not exactly like that," he replied as he turned on the flashlight, shining it right in the other's eyes.
"I can take that back now," Axel said with a challenging grin, outstretching a hand.
"Your flashlight priveleges has been revoked," Roxas countered, swatting his hand away.
The redhead snaked an arm around his back, pulling him closer as he grabbed the flashlight and Roxas's hand, holding them tightly, "Who do you think bought this flashlight, huh kid?"
"Who do you think gave you the money for those cigarettes?" Roxas said as he plucked the cigarette from Axel's mouth, holding it away as the smoke billowed up and moved away wth the seaside breeze, "It's one or the other."
Axel let go of the boy's hand wth a sigh, plucking the dark and burning shaft from his index and middle finger carefully. He stepped back, "Whatever. But when I'm done I want it back." There was another crack underneath his foot.
"Agh, move!" Roxas said as he pushed Axel a little, shining the flashlight in front of Axel's feet to find the shiny purple and green shell to already have been broken under the wrath of his Men's Size 10.
"Hey jackass, look. You broke the shell I wanted."
"If it broke by a little toe work I don't think it would have lasted long in your bag," The redhead pointed out, taking a long drag before tilting his head up and blowing the smoke into the wind.
"Still. If you had just given me the flashlight this would have never happened," Roxas said crossly, turning as he bagan to walk away.
Axel sauntered after, wrapping an arm around his waist, "Oh Roxie, don't be mad at me," He sniggered, leaning down to kiss him.
"You think kissing it all better is gong to make me happy again, huh?" He asked as he halted, pressing against the lips coated so nicely in clove.
"Mmhm," Axel laughed, a hand sliding up his back to rest at the nape of his neck.
"You egotistical bastard," Roxas said affectionately, turning off the flashlight.
