Harry Potter slammed his flask of Firewhiskey down on the table. He knew he would wake Hermione and Ron, but he didn't care. She was gone. Ginny Weasley was gone.
He thought he was protecting her, but in all reality, he put her in more danger. When they had dated in Hogwarts, they didn't hide their relationship. So when he left her behind for her own safety, the Death Eaters came directly after her.
And it was his fault.
Harry buried his face in his hands. If only . . .
If only I had realized my feelings for her long before. If only I had taken her to the Yule Ball. If only I had snuck down to the Common Room with her more often. If only I hadn't left her behind. If only I held her longer. If only I wasn't so protective. If only I let her take risks. If only I had been there to wipe her tears after her brother died. If only I kissed her in the rain. If only I told her how much she meant to me. If only I had showered her with gifts. If only I had-
He shook his head. Why had they killed her? She was only sixteen.
But Harry knew why. Deep down he knew that she was killed to warn him. Warn him that no one was safe, and anyone that meant anything to him is expendable.
He stood up and walked over to the fridge. He needed to stop sulking. Ginny always told him that she didn't want him to shut everyone out, and sulk every time something horrible happens. She told him that all good and bad things have an end. People die. It's the natural order of things.
Slamming the fridge door, Harry jerked his mind back to the present. He needed to stop thinking, but that wasn't likely. She was gone…and he couldn't stop thinking…
If only I wrote to her, talked to her more.
If only I-
He closed his eyes, not even opening the new bottle of Firewhiskey.
If only- The tears started to fall, and he couldn't stop them this time. He had held them back at the funeral, the awakening, and up until now, but now he couldn't, and didn't want to stop them. The tears came, and with them, they brought ease.
He laid his head on the table top and closed his eyes as he thought of his last If Only...
…If only I told her that I love her.
