Kira/Cagalli hints…? Sets during Seed, before the Archangel reaches Orb. A gift-fic for duokai.

Say that Something

It's strange how Cagalli and Kira often end up going on deck at the same time. They meet at the prow aboard the Archangel and watch the sea together, perhaps they talk at times but they often spend the time in silence. It has become routine by now, they even smile at each other whenever they meet. Cagalli thinks she might be able to call Kira a friend. It's a nice thought.

Cagalli doesn't think she is attracted to Kira though, but then, what is attraction? If it means to be drawn to someone, then it definitely applies to her and Kira. He is warmth surrounded by cold, how can she not want to be with him? It's the first time in ages Cagalli has felt she is near someone similar to herself, understanding someone feels like a wonderful thing.

That girl...Frey Allstar. She obviously thinks of herself and Kira as attraction...something sexual.

Cagalli doesn't believe she feels sexual attraction--or anything sexual at all--when she is with Kira. The mere thought feels absurd. She doesn't think about sex very often, doesn't have time and isn't interested. But now when she does...Frey probably is sexy. Sexual appeal, isn't it called that? What stupid expression.

Cagalli tries to look down at her own body and consider. She is thin and doesn't have a very large bosom. (Because isn't that what guys look for?) She would never be able to dress like Frey does when she is out of uniform, short skirt, revealing tank top.

She flushes at the thought and kicks it out of her mind--she'd loose all her self-respect if she'd dress like that. She just can't. In the corner of her eye, she notices Kira watching her, darn it. She tries to will her flush away and gives Kira a frown to make him look away. He does, confusedly turns his head to once again gaze at the sea.

She guesses, as Kira doesn't object to Frey's attention, that he likes it. Or can't help but like it.

And…hell. At least Cagalli knows she doesn't know much about this sort of thing. She has never thought of boys as anything else than friends, just another person to talk to or not talk to. Why does it have to change...why now?

She just doesn't know, but Kira is male and she likes him and is pretty sure he likes her.

Cagalli stands up straight, turns to Kira, halts when she finds that he is looking at her again. He is blushing.

She will not blush again. She will not.

Neither says anything but in a mutual agreement, they move closer to each other, their hands brushing. Cagalli stands stiffly and feels that Kira is as well. A few minutes pass and they slowly relax. They even start talking, discussing favourite foods, of all things, until they realize what time it is and they have to return to their posts.

It doesn't feel quite right to be that close. The next time Kira and Cagalli meet at the prow, they're back to normal and stand close to each other, but not too close.

Cagalli feels that it is enough. And not less nice. The opposite, really.
