Author's Note: A follow-up (sort of) to the previous Wayside Pimpernel poem - except this one is all my own work

I know scripts aren't allowed here, but this is more a poem or song-fic than a true script. Though I've never seen the Pimpernel musical, I've read some lyrics, and this is intentioned as a sequel-song; I suppose it could be used if any of the other books in the series were adapted into musicals. It is written from the dual points of view of Marguerite and Percy whilst he is away saving people from the guillotine; though it would be performed onstage together, they would in fact be on opposite sides of the Channel. As mentioned, it is a duet, and the parts of both singers are marked.

Enjoy!

For the Sake of Seeing You

A Percy and Marguerite Duet

Marguerite:
My eyes are tired from seeing too many a sunset
That stole you away from my arms
If I were a man, I would be a soldier at your side
And with my blood, protect you from all harm
But I am just a woman, defenseless and weak
I cannot hold you back with tears alone
In this house we once shared, I see you less and less
It seems the battlefield is now your home

And yet I cannot hate you; I cannot even try
When I see that recklessness burning in your eyes
I would leave all I know and love, and ride the whole night through,
If only to see you; for the sake of seeing you

Percy:
You shine as bright as any star that guides me 'cross the sea
Your smile alone can lead me through the night
The merest thought of you gives me all my strength to live
Even as I long to have you in my sight
I try to do my duty, banish you from mind,
But your memory moves me close to tears
Everything that I do, I do in your name, my love,
Though each day away from you feels like years

And yet I can't forget you; I cannot even try
All that I can think of is the sorrow in your eyes
I would abandon my beliefs, and ride the whole night through,
If only to see you; for the sake of seeing you

Marguerite: I pray God will preserve you,
Percy: If not until the end,
Both: Long enough to hold you once again

Both: And yet I can't forget you; I cannot even try
When I see your love for me burning in your eyes
I'd throw all caution to the wind, and ride the whole night through

Marguerite: Just to see the one I love,
Percy: I would forsake the stars above,
Both: All for the sake of seeing you
