Lester was driving towards the ARC on his usual route, the air-conditioning in his Jag was up on full force and yet beads of sweat were still forming on his neatly manicured brow. He was almost at work when he heard something strange coming from behind the big ARC building. He pulled over to the side of the road, and peered out the window, craning his neck to see if he could see what was making the odd sounds. The ARC was still blocking his view. He sat still, staring out the windscreen at the empty road ahead of him. After contemplating what it could be for a few minutes, his curiosity got the best of him. With a groan he opened the door and stepped out onto the curb and the heat hit him like a truck. He immediately took of his suit jacket, neatly folded it and placed it on the front seat of his Jag. He shut the door behind him, made sure she was locked and then walked towards the strange noises.
As he drew nearer to the noises, they grew louder and more painful. It sounded like a dismorphed animal cry. He rounded the corner to see his friend, the mammoth, sitting on his haunches and looking defeated. A large orange puddle was in front of him, slowly spreading across the pavement. The mammoth took his gaze away from the puddle to look at Lester, his eyes were sad and tears the size of baseballs dripped down his enormous fuzzy cheeks forming another puddle, mixing with the orange on the ground. Lester walked over to the mammoth and placed his hand on the mammoths knee,
'There there mammoth, it's okay' Lest sat awkwardly next to him, he wasn't exactly used to the whole, 'comforting friend' bit. The mammoth laid on the ground, as if telling Lester to hop up on his back. Lester complied, not only because the mammoth was sad, but because even he had to admit it would be pretty cool to ride a mammoth. He got comfortable, and the mammoth stood up.
'I know where we should go, onward my mammothy mammoth friend!' yelled Lester with excitement, the mammoths mood picked up and he reared on his back legs, roaring as he shook his enormous head. He charged forward, Lester pulling at his fur to send him in the right direction.
"HALT," Lester said authroitively, but with a happy tone. The mammoth complied, and sat on his haunches, then laid his head on the ground so Lester could safely jump off. He stumbled as he hit the ground, but quickly corrected himself and fixed the cuffs on his sleaves. The mammoth thought he looked pretty suave whilst he did it, but he still had no idea where he was going. The mammoth scuffed his feet on the road as Lester disappeared into a colourful looking shop. A few minutes later, Lester immerged holding two orange ice blocks. The mammoth roared with happiness and Lester laughed. The mammoth bent his head down and ate his in one go, stick and all and he was so happy he gave Lester a big lick on the face. Lester blushed and hoped back up onto his wife, the mammoth and said,
'Onwards sweetie, lets go home!'
The mammoth reared up with happiness, and they charged off towards the ARC, where they lived happily ever after.
