Mortal Hearts:

Edward looked down onto the barren landscape before him. The heat of the desert was making his skin warmer than usual. Very Warm, just like the chocolate eyes he had left behind. He may have left his heart with those eyes as well. Now, to save her, all he had to do was track down the danger he had brought into her life. His mind wandered to the human he had left behind.

Her warm, pale skin that was softer then the finest silk, those deep brown eyes that traveled down into her soul, the way she couldn't lie, her bravery. All of these drawed him to her. But still he remembered how breakable she was.

He shook his head. She didn't belong in his world. He was a monster and she was better off without him. Better off without the threat he brought into her life. She deserved better than the lies he had told to make her let him leave. Better then the broken hearthe had left behind. The heart that he had forced himself to believe he couldn't have broken more completely any other way.

Edward looked back over the dry, dead landscape. Her mortal heart would heal. If only his was the same…
