I don't love what I wrote, but I liked the idea. I have zero time to write these days but this is what came out. Feel free to take the idea and write a better version! I'd love to read it!
Danny felt like a little kid as he caught Steve's pass and then ran like a wild man into the end zone.
Leaping in the air he was flying high with a huge goofy grin on his face…until he landed and his bum knee reminded him of why he stuck to fantasy football.
Putting all his weight onto his good leg he tentatively bent and straightened the bad knee grimacing at the twinges of pain. But then he looked across the field and saw Steve cradling his arm.
"Oh wonderful…here we go again," he mumbled as he made his way back across the turf with as little a limp as possible. By the time he reached his partner and Catherine his own discomfort was forgotten.
"You just had to show off, didn't you?" Danny waved his hands.
"I got caught up in the moment," Steve grimaced. "Nice catch, by the way."
"It was, wasn't it?" Danny gloated.
"Peyton would have been proud."
"You weren't so bad yourself , buddy."
Catherine rolled her eyes and cleared her throat. "If you two are done patting each other on the back, we need to get off the field and get Steve back to the doctor."
"Why don't you take me, Cath?" Steve suggested.
"Nothing says date night like a trip to the ER," Danny teased.
Choosing to ignore the blonde, Steve added, "We haven't had much time alone lately."
Catherine crossed her arms and cocked her head. "So…you want me to play nurse or something?"
"Or something," Steve grinned mischievously. "There are beds…and those curtain thingies for privacy."
Danny held his hand out. "Keys, McGarrett, before you go into any more detail."
Steve reached for the keys in his pocket with his good arm and tossed them. "Jealous, Danno?"
"Um…yeah…jealous…that's it. Maybe you should have your head checked while you're at the hospital." The lieutenant took a step forward and immediately crumpled to the ground. "Argh," he groaned clutching at his knee.
"Danny!" the standing duo exclaimed before rushing forward.
"Is it your knee?" Steve asked kneeling beside his friend.
"They don't call you Super-SEAL for nothing," Danny said through gritted teeth.
Catherine sighed as she witnessed the injured duo before her and pulled out her phone.
"No need to call for an ambulance…you can drive both of us now."
"Yes…I could Steve…but three is a crowd. I don't want to get in the way of McDanno."
"McDanno?" the partners repeated before looking at each other in horror as the pretty brunette completed her call.
"I feel sick," Danny mumbled.
"Maybe you two can share a room? I hear there are beds…and curtain thingies for privacy," Catherine winked and chuckled as she started walking away.
Who says bromance is dead?
The End
