A/N: So the other day I was staring at a candle and thinking of Merlin... this the result. o_o

Disclaimer: I don't own Merlin.

They had done it. The king and his magician had accomplished what no other had done before. All of Albion finally united under one king, magic and non-magic folk alike living in harmony. And it was beautiful. Lands thrived, people prospered and a sense of calm fell over everyone. These were the thoughts of Merlin and Arthur as they stood upon one of the highest hills overlooking the villages surrounding them.

But they were disappointed.

It was beautiful, yes, but it was far from perfect. Life was dull now. There was no need to go to battle or explore, the adrenaline rush one felt when they traveled into enemy territory had all but disappeared. To put it plainly, Arthur and Merlin were bored, and boredom to those with power is simply not allowed. Which is why they believed their actions now were completely justified.

After surveying the land one last time, Arthur gently laid his hand on Merlin's shoulder and silently nodded to him. Merlin's eyes burned gold as the green below them turned red. Screams echoed throughout the land as the villages were consumed by the flames. Arthur and Merlin, lost to their own minds long ago, stood silently as they watched the world they had created burn to ashes. And as the Great Dragon let out a mighty roar overhead they found themselves thinking; it didn't really matter, did it? They could start over and build an empire greater than the one before and continue until they were satisfied. They smiled at this, content that they would never be bored again and indifferent to the tears streaming down their faces.
