Lucy was sitting on her chair rocking her baby back and forth when she saw that awful Judge Turpin. This time he didn't even bother to knock. He just barged in. "WHAT do you want," Lucy asked, not bothering to hide her rage. "Lucy-"
"WHAT are you doing here," she interrupted him, "haven't you done enough damage? Don't you realize how much you hurt our family? Do you even care?" "Of course I care Lucy. That's why I'm here.
"I wish to make amends for hurting you and your family. I thought perhaps I could provide you with founds or lodging or something" Lucy glowered. "If you want to make amends there is only one thing that is acceptable. If you are not willing to do it don't bother trying to make amends."
"What can I do? I will do anything… that is in my power" "Send for Ben immediately and have him returned UNHARMED. Reunite a wife with her husband and a daughter with her father. Do not act upon the abominable thing you've said before, for we've all been through enough suffering.
"Then and only then will you be forgiven for the dreadful thing you did. Until that you are a monster in everyone's eyes that I know" "Lucy it's not that simple. The crime he has been charged with-" "IS FALSE," she yelled, "and you know that as well as I do"\
"False perhaps but the jury agreed he did it" "If the jury agreed you should jump off the largest bridge in London, does it mean they're correct?" "No of course not. But he must be subject to at least some chastisement" "FOR DOING NO WRONG?
"If the jury decided you ought to bare the chastisement would you think it right" "It's not a matter of right and wrong," the judge explained, "I cannot change the law simply because it affects a friend" "You did once" "THAT was different" "Okay," Lucy said, "you know the conditions upon which you can redeem yourself…" and with that she broke down into tears.
"OKAY," Turpin relented, "I'll do it, but only because I cannot bare to see you so miserable. You are my friend… as is Benjamin and that's why I'm doing it." I don't care WHY you're doing it. Just do it" With that, Lucy saw him out and shut the door firmly.
