Hey, this is my entry for the Maximum Ride writing contest. The next chapter of Ember will be up soon I did not have a lot of time to write this week because I was at camp. I've had this done since I mailed it in for the contest and figured I would post it to get opinions and as a filler until I can finish my next chapter for my story.

I heard the audible gasp escape from Dylan's lips as he began to plummet towards the ground. His wings jerked open awkwardly and snagged on loose branches as he parachuted to the ground. Jumping of the roof I spread my wings and landed gracefully next to him.
"What was that for?" he asked staring at me with wide eyes.
"We're part bird," I explained. "Flying is as much an instinct to us as it is to any other avian." Before he could start to protest I deliberately cut him off, "If you want me to teach you how to fly we're gonna do it my way."
Once he began nodding reluctantly I continued on with my riveting lecture, "You did better than I thought," he brightened up at that and I made no effort to hide the scowl on my face at his sudden burst of joy.
"This time after jumping off the roof, unless you need me to push you again, move your wings into a hard down stroke to lift you upward, don't forget to flap or you'll fall and end up a pancake."
"That's all you're going to tell me?"
"There's not much to say. It's instinct, just go for it and see what happens," I answered.
As you can see I'm not big on sympathy towards strangers that think they can come and join my Flock just because they have wings. Especially, since the first time I met him he was hanging around a creepy scientist who experimented on himself and my Voice claimed he was my "perfect other half".
Finally back on the roof I stood by watching him starring at the drop. "Go," I snarled already annoyed that I had to waste my time playing Max's School of Flying with the rookie.
With one last look at the drop he jumped off the roof and pushed down hard with his wings, soaring into the air. He managed to stay up for a few minutes before hitting the ground and falling over, considering I never actually told him how to land.
Looking as indifferent as I could I landed next to him. "Better, the landing needs work but we can fix that easily." His sullen expression at my lack of enthusiasm evaporated when I said the word we and his eyes shown like stars. Truthfully, I was actually pretty impressed with how he did, but there was no way I was going to tell him that.
With a few more tries Dylan was flying pretty well, was able to stay in the air easily and his landing had improved. I was severely annoyed at how quickly he had caught on and wanted to wipe the stupid grin off of his to perfect face. My arms were crossed as we made our way back to the house, whatever I told myself, it didn't matter how perfect he seemed I still ran the Flock and Fang was still my right hand man.
