"it's not my fault"
Yes, it is and you know it, don't cha, Jack
"I didn't mean for this to happen"
He told you he loved you and you couldn't even bring yourself to say it back
"I didn't need to say it, he knew, he always knew"
No, he didn't know, you never told him, he died thinking you didn't love him
"He knew. He had to know how much I love him"
He died thinking you didn't love him. He died because of you, Jack
"No"
Yes, you may have well as strangled him yourself
"No"
The alien you brought here
"No"
The virus you could have saved him from
"No"
The love he gave you was just shoved away and forgotten
"No, stop it, please"
I bet he hated you for making him love you
"No"
The Doctor looked down at the immortal cradled in his arm. He'd been walking the halls of the TARDIS when he'd heard Jack muttering in his sleep, having a nightmare. He knew what it was like to loose one you cared for , the one you love. How it haunted you. How the darkness pushed into the deepest recesses of your mind started to close in, to consume all thought of living again.
Violent shivering brought him back to the present. Tears streaked their way down abnormally pale cheeks. Hands twisted, body tensed
"Jack"
Red rimmed eyes flew open as Jack shot up and clung to the Doctor
"I killed him. It's all my fault"
"No its not" More tears fell as the Doctor gently rocked them from side to side.
"That's what he said" Jack had refused to tell him what had happened sin e his last, unfortunate, trip on the TARDIS. The Doctor being the Doctor, was curious as to why the normally enthusiastic man looked so heartbroken
"Who?" Silence wove between them. Jack wouldn't meet his eyes.
A whisper crossed the silent chasm
"The man I love"
