It was eerily quite in the Twoleg den, and Bone couldn't suppress a quite snarl of frustration as the cat door slammed shut behind him with a loud bang. Quickly scanning the surrounding room, he let out a relieved sigh. All was quiet and peaceful, though, not for much longer.
Silently making his way across the room and into the next every sound seemed louder than usual. The sound of the monsters roaring outside seemed to echo oddly off the walls. His own breath came ragged and fast with nerves that he would never admit to having. So, it really was a relief to find his targets safely tucked away and sleeping soundly. It was a scene of such purity and utter peace that Bone had to stop and consider his orders for a moment.
His mission was quiet simple and Scourge had been quiet clear, as though he expected Bone to back out. All he had to do was get in and kill the ginger kits, and if their brown tabby mother or sister awoke, leave no witnesses.
He vaguely wondered how the other cats faired on their job. Snake and Ice would follow without hesitation, but he suspected Brick was having a hard time stomping to pieces what was left of his moral compass. It didn't even make much sense. Kill all ginger kits? What was the point? Had their beloved (well, terrifying) leader finally snapped?
Shaking his head, he realized it hardly mattered. He either got the job done as was expected of a BloodClan 'warrior' or spared them for a night and then killed. So with a deep breath he slashed the throat on the first two kits.
As though sensing that her kits were in severe danger, the brown tabby queen snapped awake. With one shocked, horrified look at her beloved kits lying bleeding out over the white carpet, she was on him in an instant.
So he cut her throat open just like her kits and her eyes pleaded with him one last time before clouding over. As he finished up the messy job the lucky kit, the brown tabby, awoke. She stared up at him and her green eyes locked onto him.
Leave no witness, that's what Scourge had said. No witness. Bone felt bile rise in his throat. He couldn't do it. Not as the kit lay down next to her mother and her fur turned red with her family's blood.
"Mother? Mother, please wake up."
Bone backed away, but was unable to look away.
"Mother, wake up, please! I'm scared…"
Her desperation grew as she moved on to her five ginger brothers. Softly poking one with her blood splattered paws, her whispered pleas turned into a desperate cry.
"Rusty, help me! Something's wrong with Mother. RUSTY!"
A bump sounded somewhere in the house, the Twolegs were awake. Bone finally decided that Scourge didn't need to know about this one small detail. He darted out just as a Twoleg walked in on the scene and screamed.
