Rose listened to the familiar hum of the TARDIS landing. "Where are we this time?" she asked the Doctor. He smiled at her, and yanked a lever on the console.
"Go and see," he beckoned. Rose grinned at him. She pushed open the TARDIS door, eagerly awaiting to experience the world beyond it. They'd landed in a clearing in the middle of a thick, green forest, but when or where, Rose couldn't tell.
"It's the year 4,212, on the planet Rendomoricus," the Doctor explained, "but that's
not why we're here."
"What are you up to, Doctor?" She raised her eyebrow incredulously. He smirked at her.
"Well, Rose Tyler, I think it's about time I take you out on a proper date." He stepped out of the TARDIS carrying a woven picnic basket and a blanket. He flashed the blonde a wide grin, and she couldn't help the way the corners of her lips turned upwards to smile in return.
They sat down on the blanket, and Rose pulled a turkey sandwich out of the basket. She laid against the Doctor, who in turn had selected a cheese sandwich. They sat there, with each other, eating.
They had finished their sandwiches, but hadn't spoken much. The Doctor extended his hand to Rose, who firmly took it into hers. "This is nice, Doctor," Rose smiled.
"I'm glad you're enjoying it, Rose," he replied, "but just wait. In a few minutes, we're going to watch one of the more brilliant meteor showers on this side of the galaxy." He looked at Rose, his eyes glistening with excitement and wonder.
The first meteor flew across the sky, and Rose tightly squeezed the Doctor's hand. The Doctor leaned in closer to Rose. Her heart stumbled over a beat inside her chest, butterflies tumbling her stomach over in circles and figure eights as his breath touched her cheek and his lips skimmed over hers. They separated, and cuddled
some more as they watch the meteor shower. Rose pressed herself against the Doctor's body, and peered at the stars.
Rose wasn't thinking about the rare spectacle above her. All she could think about was the man- the wonderful man- next to her. She wanted to spend the rest of her life with him. They were right. She could feel it.
Rose went back to focusing on what they had came for, but for Rose, that didn't matter anymore. She had the Doctor, and the Doctor had her, and that was all they needed.
Thanks so much to Insane Little Dreamer for editing this. You're actually the best.
I've never written a one shot before, but this was a lot of fun so I might do these more often. Thanks for reading ^^
