It was cold
It was cold. So fucking cold her fingers were numb and her teeth chattered despite the 'shut up' she'd received earlier.
It was silent (despite those teeth) and wet and she couldn't decide what were tears and what was rain. She knew her face was wet…did it matter how?
"Jeez, do something about that will you?" he motioned to her hands, shaking in their gloves. "Stop acting like we're dead already." He turned to Daniel. "I heard she was one of the best?"
"Shut up," Daniel hissed. "Just stop talking."
"Excuse me civilian. I am commanding officer in this group."
"Tell yourself that while it lasts." Daniel muttered and turned to their guard standing by their tents. "Nothing?"
"There is no news DanielJackson." Teal'c said – stoic as ever. Daniel swore and she knew that she should be laughing. That fact in itself brought a new wave crashing over her. It hurt. Physically hurt to be standing there by the fire, her gun in hand. And it shouldn't. she should be stronger than this. She was trained for this.
Perhaps that's why those frat regs were in place. To keep this sort of thing from happening.
Swearing at those regs wouldn't bring him back. She felt her hand being pulled and looked up at Daniel. "Let's go home."
The new Colonel (The latest in a long line of failed attempts to replace him) stared after them as Daniel led them through the 'gate.
"Sam?" it wasn't a command. And he hadn't called her Carter. "Sam?"
"You're very dead." She managed to say as the event horizon disappeared behind her. "Teal'c carried me away – I saw you."
He shrugged, "Yeah. Must thank the Tok'ra someday…" he turned back to Landry. "I do have to don't I?"
"Yes Jack." The man in the control room smiled.
"You're dead." She said biting her lip.
"No." He turned to her seriously, "No I'm not dead."
She stumbled down the ramp, knowing that behind her Daniel would be glaring and Teal'c's eyebrow would be raised. Who gave a damn. He was standing in front of her.
He turned back to Landry, "Down time? For SG1?"
"A week. I need them back though."
"Not that Colonel though!" Daniel called up. "Give us somebody with a brain."
"Colonel Cameron Mitchell is on his way," Jack said- not taking his eyes off Sam. "Coming?" Sam nodded mutely, almost falling into him.
"Yeah, I'm coming."
"Where are we going? " Teal'c asked, handing his gear to the nearest SF.
"Cabin," Jack answered fumbling to hold onto Sam's hand. "A week of Simpsons, Star Wars…beer." Sam nodded, a hint of a smile playing on her lips. He looked at her, they were good at silent conversations and she nodded.
It wasn't until they were out of the mountain that she kissed him. (Although Daniel was surprised that they'd lasted that long).
