Beca was wearing her headphones as she crossed the street, blasting a new remix, and wrapped up in her own little world. The track was just coming to an end, when she heard a faint shout. She pulled her headphones down and turned to the sound. There was a red-head on the other side of the road, looking at an oblivious blonde walking past the corner shop ahead.
"Aubrey!"
The brunette turned back, the light had changed, but the red head hadn't noticed and was walking into the road, still trying to catch her friend's attention.
Beca acted on instinct. She turned and sprinted back, shoving the red head out of the way of an oncoming taxi. Red was safely on the pavement, minus a few scratches and possibly small bruises. Beca wasn't so lucky, she wasn't fast enough. The taxi honked at the crumpled figure splayed on the road. She'd been hit by the taxi. In the moment it took for Chloe to sit up and look around, the taxi driver became bored of waiting and simply drove off around the semi-concious figure. Chloe was at Beca's side in an instant. Red shook her shoulder gently, and Beca groaned. Figuring she had to move Beca off the New York city road and to safety before they were both hit, Chloe pulled the brunette into her arms and carried her to the sidewalk.
It was only when she put down the smaller woman that she realised there was blood on her arms. There was a red trail visible across Beca's side, and small splashes of crimson were dripping down onto Chloe's arms.
"We need to go to a hospital"
Shock tended to make Chloe state the obvious.
"Nah, I'm fine"
Beca spluttered and clutched at her ribs for a moment.
"Totally fine"
She could feel the rib that had broken through her skin. Breathing was getting harder.
"Totally, and completely, fine."
Beca barely managed to finish the sentence before she passed out.
