A Mere Mortal
~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~
I am only a mere mortal,
I know I am nothing more,
I turned away from my destiny,
For I know I am weak,
And that I will never hold,
Only a frail creature that walked in this darkness,
That had fallen upon us.
I walked around temptations,
They lingered,
Lurking,
As if waiting for the right moment,
The moment it can pounce on me,
To corrupt me,
With its dirty words and promises,
But would I be able resist?
A mere mortal,
I am not strong,
Do not look upon me like a savior,
For I am not,
Do not address me as a king,
I am not capable of such title,
Do not think so highly of me,
I am no hope to the Dunedain,
Or to Middle Earth,
I am only a mere mortal,
My ancestor's blood runs deep in my veins,
I am no better than him.
Why?
I fear I do not understand,
You talked of me as if I am truly 'hope',
Defended my honor like it truly mattered,
Protected my life in battle like it was worthy of your saving,
But was it?
I am my own enemy,
My mind tempting my heart,
My body betraying my soul,
I can feel it happening,
Can you save me now?
No,
You can no longer protect me,
Not one haven for me,
Maybe only in your inviting arms,
But I am un-deserving,
I am but a mere mortal,
That's all I am,
A mere mortal.

It has been a while since I wrote a poem so it's okay if you don't like it.
Who do you think Aragorn is musing to?
