"Hello? Anybody home?" the petite young woman called as she opened the doors to the bright blue police telephone box. There was no answer except for a hum of joy from the TARDIS herself. The young woman smiled and headed past the console, a hand running across the surface, avoiding the buttons and levers as she made her way to her room. A nice shower was all she needed before flitting off again, as she was wont to do.
The Doctor, being pulled away from his fancy hat room, in which every single one of his hats were kept in pristine condition, poked his head into the hall, hands flying up to take the fez off his head if it should be River he found in his TARDIS.
But it wasn't and he set the fez aside to investigate. He hadn't seen Amy or Rory in a good while; they'd been staying on Earth to be "normal" which he found horridly boring.
"River?" he called, thought it hadn't sounded like her. His feet took him towards the control room, but he found no one fussing with the controls as River would have been.
Ah yes, a shower was exactly what she needed. Washing off the dust from the ancients made her feel like a new woman. She towel dried her short brown hair and opened the closet, picking out her clothes with the care she'd use to lift a diamond from its bullet proof glass. Priceless rarities weren't going to steal themselves, after all and she had to get back on the road.
Finally the Doctor found the new room, guided by the faint noises he'd never heard before. He pushed the door open and found a young woman he'd never seen before.
"Hey," she said, not turning around as she packed items into a small black bag. "I was wondering if anyone was here." He was first struck by the American accent, then he realized that there was a stranger in the TARDIS.
"Who-what-how did you get in here?" was the question he decided on.
"You gave me a key. Don't you recall?" She laughed and turned, tucking a vortex manipulator around her wrist, still not looking up. "Gave it to me before Jack gave me the job. He says 'hi' by the way.
"Jack?" That was the one bit of information he had managed to latch onto in the flurry of information.
"Captain Jack Harkness? He gave me the job at Torchwood? In America?" Finally the pesky wrist straps were tightened and she looked up. The confusion welled up in her eyes and then, as if a damn broke in her mind, she swore.
"Oh bollocks." The American accent disappeared as if it had never been there. As if the sight of him had startled the American out of her. "Oh I really messed it up this time." She grabbed her bag, face turning bright red.
"Who are you?" the Doctor demanded, following her as she pushed past him.
She didn't turn around until she was standing at the door. Then, she grinned and laughed a little. Then she opened her mouth and said the word the Doctor hated most: "Spoilers."
Then, laughing, she added, "Oh I never get to say that, that's always mum's line!" Then she pushed open the door and left, still laughing slightly to herself. The door swung shut behind her, leaving the Doctor alone again.
