Ghost Hunting, a National Treasure Fanfiction

A/N: If I owned National Treasure, Ben would have actually read Riley's book. Anything else you recognize doesn't belong to me.

Riley Poole had always wanted to see a ghost. Now was his chance. Ben and Abigail's house was huge. It was also ancient. There were bound to be some historical dead guys hanging around somewhere. Riley grabbed a flashlight and his digital camera and went on his way.

Ben and Abi were off doing something that had to do with history, so Riley had the whole house to himself. "Perfect for ghost hunting," he said quietly. He set off to the basement. The door creaked as he opened it. "This is creepy," Riley thought.

"Who wants to down the creepy tunnel inside the tomb first?" Riley asked sarcastically. They were standing at the opening of a grave in the basement of Trinity Church in New York. Of course, no one wanted to go. Ben, always the hero, volunteered.

"Why does everything underground have to be so scary? Everything is always covered in cobwebs!" Riley complained as he turned on the flashlight. The stairs to the basement creaked with the pressure of the techie's weight. After what seemed like an eternity, Riley reached the bottom of the staircase. He looked around, shining the beam from the light ahead of him.

Suddenly, a loud BANG broke the silence. Riley jumped about ten feet in the air. His heart was racing as he realized that it was just the air conditioner. "Ok, Riley. Keep going. It's just the air conditioner," he told himself.

He turned the corner to see a huge spider. "AAAHH!!" Riley ran through the basement and bolted up the stairs, slamming the door behind him. "I HATE spiders!" Riley said.

He plopped down on a kitchen chair and gave an involuntary shudder. After his heart rate became regular again, he set off towards the attic.

When he reached the attic door, he turned the flashlight back on and prepared himself for a ghost sighting. Then, he heard the front door open.

"Riley, we're home! Did you find any ghosts?" Abigail called cheerfully.

"Not yet!" Riley yelled back to her.

"Good luck!" Abi replied.

He opened the door slowly, making his way up the stairs. When he reached the top, he realized that this would be ghost central. "Wow." he whispered.

"Here, ghosty, ghosty, ghosty!" Riley called softly. "You can come out now! I just want one picture."

Suddenly, something came up behind him. It grabbed him by the shoulders and shouted "BOO!"

"AAAHH!" Riley screamed again. He took a picture of the something and ran. "Ow!" the something said. The thing gave chase and ran after the young man.

Riley stopped running when he got to the first floor. He turned around and saw that the 'ghost' was Ben.

" Ben, I'm gonna get you for this! You just wait!" Riley shouted at his friend. There was no reply from the older man, who was doubled over in hysterics. "You... should have... seen... your face." Ben said between bouts of laughter.

"So NOT funny! Abi, your husband is mean!" Riley said, walking toward the living room. "I'm SO gonna get you for this. Watch your back, Ben Gates."

"What are you going to do?" Ben smirked in response to the threat. "Take a picture of me?" The older man laughed.

" I'm not sure yet, but watch out." Riley said.
