A thousand years ago a ancient spirit fell from the sky. Weak and frail from her wounds she was taken in by three elven sisters and their mother. When she grew strong she revealed who she was and made the three sisters her acolytes for their kindness. The chosen sisters stood by her side eager to show her everything about the waking world. Eventually the spirit saw a distant castle asked that they go there. Yet the acolytes felt fear that the spirit would leave them for those of greater wealth and title. For they were, but meager peasant folk who loved the spirit dearly. They refused to go, and so the spirit snuck away that night to see the castle for herself.
Ruling over the land where the sisters dwelled was an elderly king and his only son. The king was very old, and had left most of his duties to his son, the prince. Who came to rule his people justly with kindness. Thus earning the love of the spirit, and it was not long before she came before the prince asking to be wedded.
During this time her acolytes searched for her until they had heard the news about what had happened. They spoke with their wise mother who said that the spirit had chosen her path, and that they must let such things be. Yet their longing to be by her side once more made them go to her on the wedding night. Sneaking past the guards they went to see their dear friend one last time. Yet upon entering her room they saw the spirit being dragged away by dark magic. Their cries alerted the guards who with the prince saw what was happening. Before anything could be done the spirit and the three sisters were whisked away.
Upon their disappearance the prince went in search of his love night after night. Never loving again as the years flew by into centuries. Yet as time passed the mind and soul of the prince began to wane until he only knew the want of a love lost. Thus the prince fell into despair and loneliness as the need to be with something beyond their memory or understanding drove them mad. Over time the lands became bleak and thus the people mourned their prince.
Throughout the centuries the four had been taken far away to another land. The spirit tried to use her powers to return to the prince, but the magic placed on her ensured that she was forever trapped there. The acolytes aided in her search for a way out, and learned that they could leave the island for the dark magic had no effect on them. Thus a plan was formed. The spirit would give up her mortal form and bind herself to the three sisters. Posessed by three halves of the spirit they would seek their way home taking the spirit within them. So that she may return to her prince once more. Yet even in her state the dark magic still fought to keep the spirit on the island. Thus as the three acolytes left the island they had their memories stripped from them. Upon the mainland they had forgotten about the spirit within them, and about the land that they had came from. They only knew that they wished to return to a home that did not exist in their minds. The spirit was weakened from her struggle against the dark magic and slept within them as the three sisters wandered for centuries. Searching for a place that they did not know, but longed to be in. Their lost, woeful cries a song floating on the wind.
Long long ago
On a far distant pathway
Three lonely children
Sat beside a road
Said one to other
How far are we going
we've walked so long
on this endless road
Then one to the other
With such sad bemoaning
lamented that there was no end
To the lonely road
For where we three sisters
Will be going
Has no end no beginning
Or a place to call home
