RECOIL

Chapter 1

The eggs cracked, and an old man stood over a stove top. He wore a business suit, ready for his day job. The apartment was not small, just cramped with future, but mostly boxes. A window was open next to the stove, fanning the old man, relieving him of the stove's heat. The man had a terrible scar on his left cheek, old and withered skin. His hair was white with specs of brown here and there.

A television was on in the living room, a news channel was covering the recent news on a war, which was long in the making. The old man constantly looked over his shoulder and to the TV, to see if he recognized anyone in the war. The only person he recognized was a cyborg ninja. Cyborgs were the new breed of soldier. Still human, but with unnatural abilities.

The eggs finished, and the old man sat down to eat at the kitchen table, enjoying the breeze. The kitchen's walls were covered with pictures—not of family, but of long forgotten friends. A young computer nerd who wore glasses sat in front of a computer, the walls of an airplane behind him, sat in one frame. Another frame housed an old man, similar in sight to the one sitting at the kitchen table—a patch over his right eye. A young, blond haired rookie in a skin tight suit standing in front of an oil platform was next to the computer nerd's picture. Another held a little, blond haired little girl named Sunny—she stood on a stool in front of a stove, cooking eggs similar to the ones the old man currently ate. And the last picture held a young, black haired lady in a lab coat, which was maybe too much unbuttoned. Solid Snake remembered those days, the days where he spent his entire life fighting in the war. A war which was still raging on. Now, instead of fighting, Old Snake was enjoying the remainder of his life, like Big Boss told him to, without fighting.

The eggs that Snake ate were the same ones that Sunny made for him two years ago—the year that he "killed" himself. Nobody knew he was still alive, not even his best friend, Otacon—the computer nerd in the pictures. Otacon would watch Snake's back in times of war by watching him with either surveillance cameras or a mini Metal Gear called Metal Gear Mk. 2.

Snake finished his eggs, and got up. He gathered his coat, and headed into the sand. Snake lived in a small town in Iraq, and he worked at a small nano-machine development company called NANO-GEC.

As snake walked across the lot towards his car, he heard a familiar hissing sound that was quickly getting louder. The RPG blew up his car, destroying the ones around it. Snake looked up from the ground, to see a helicopter hovering over his apartment, PMC troops grappling down onto the roof. And with them was an old headache, Vamp.
