Sleep In

The chirps of the morning birds woke Lance as the sun's rays blind his eyes. Despite the glare of the sun, the white sheets of the bed were so soft, he could sink into them and never come out... Turning his head, his smile grew wider as he saw a familiar face.

Kitty.

He swam through the blanket to reach for her, wrapping her in his arms. He glanced towards the alarm clock.

8:34.

Today was a Saturday. Neither of them had to go to work. They could sleep in. He smiled, closing his eyes as he took in the scent of her shampoo.

It seemed like yesterday when Kitty jumped out of her locker in front of him in high school and just about mulled him. It was a happy day, the day they both first met. The day when he found out he wasn't alone... He also used her the first week they met. Her powers had access to get to the test answers, he and the friends that he had at that school were desperate so some teacher wouldn't hound them if they failed. Despite the negative intention, he really did care for Kitty. Even if they did got away with the test answers, he'd still want to get to know her more. Their factions were different, though he tried his utmost to keep their relationship. Why did he came over to Xavier's mansion back then in the first place?

Now here they were. A SHIELD agent and an X-Men instructor. So many years had passed, though deep down inside, Kitty will always be that spunky girl he knew.

They laughed together, fought together, even made the big decision to move in together. If she didn't jump out of that locker years ago, he wouldn't be the person he was today. Everyone at SHIELD said he had courage greater than anyone on the team, not leaving a man behind. Though what they didn't know is those traits weren't with him at the start. Without Kitty, he wouldn't be that person. Without her, he'd still be that hot headed teenager. Without her, he'd end up the bad guy.

Because of Kitty, she help pulled him out of the pit he was in. Because of her, he turned out to be one of the good guys. She indeed was one of the best things that ever happened to him.

She went out and fought evil on a daily basis, though she saved him more than she could ever know.

Closing his eyes, he kissed her brow, careful not to wake her.

He heard himself mutter. "Thank you for saving me, darling..."

"Whu, Lance?" he felt her slowly beginning to move. "What time is it? Did anybody call?"

Lance chuckled, backing away a bit to give her room. "No, babe, nobody called at all... Just us today."

Her arms stretched, reaching for his frame as she went in for an embrace. He could stay like this forever, he could fall right back to sleep in her arms.

"Kurt said he was gonna make waffles..." began Kitty. "We should call him up and get him to make us some."

"I'll bring a plate up and get coffee while I'm at the kitchen," said Lance, pulling the sheets off of him. "You can have breakfast in bed."

"You don't have to do it, Lance, I can get up..."

"No, I'm more than happy to get them for you," he said as he put his slippers and nightgown on. "It's a perfect start before the picnic today."

A smile came across her face. Every time he saw them, he swore he made himself a fissure and fell through the cracks.

"What did I do to deserve a guy like you? I must have gotten really lucky..."

He smiled as he walked through the door.

"Not as lucky as I am that I found you."
