Hey, everyone! Man, I am bouncing around genres, aren't I? Well, I don't usually write poetry, but I got inspired to write this this past weekend. I have loved the Legend of Zelda since I was eight years old, almost ten years now! This poem came to me when I started thinking about how link is a true knight in shining armor, for a lot of girls. Then I started thinking that maybe he was a knight in shining armor for someone not so important to the main plots of the games. A nameless girl Link will never know. Well…these are her words.

Knight in Shining Armor
His hair is like the gold of a crown
Blue like the sea are his eyes
He's the boy who lives next door to me
I don't want him to pass me by
As I sit from the safety of my window
I watch and I learn all I can
I see his courage, his strength, his kindness
He'll grow to be a wonderful man
When I see that honest, happy smile
On his kind, good-natured face
My hands shake, I catch my breath
My heart begins to race
"He's mine," I think, breathlessly,
"He's mine, and mine only. No one else can have him, they can't!"
"He's mine to love, he's mine to hold,"
"No one else may take him, they shan't!"
But how can that be? A part of me says.
You've known him for years, but you've never said
A thing to him, not a single word.
For all he knows, you're dead!
The time hasn't come, I tell myself firmly
One day, I will, you'll see
And when I do, we'll be together.
He and I, I and he
Spring went by, and summer and fall
Winter seemed especially long
I was sure I had finally gotten the courage to tell him…
And then, one day, he was gone.
"Just up and left," The villagers said
No one was really sure why
The kind young man in the funny green cap
Had left without saying goodbye.
For days and weeks, I watched without fail
The entrance to our quaint little town
Hoping and praying each and every day
He'd make it home, safe and sound
Once in a while, a story would come
A tale of a daring young man
Who fought monsters and demons far beyond count
With only a sword in his hand
Early one morning, I heard the news
"He's back! He's back in town!"
I watched from my window as they crowded around him
Watched—but I didn't go down.
For the moment I saw him, I knew—
Long ago, I'd run out of time.
Now that he was back, healthy and whole,
I knew he would never be mine.
Through my tears, I see his crown-gold hair
The deep-sea blue of his eyes
He was my precious Knight in Shining Armor
And he'd already passed me by.
