A/N: This is what happens when my brain starts shipping Roman and Glynda while I'm sick. I hope anyone who reads this enjoys it.
Far Too Long
"It's been a long time… far too long of a time…" She dropped her mug and it shattered on the floor.
She turned and stared at him, her mouth agape in shock and surprise. Slowly, her expression shifted to an angry scowl.
"You said that you only had one job left… Just one!" She exclaimed, full of anger.
"I did, didn't I?" He frowned.
"You did… that was three years ago…" she sighed, trailing off.
"Well, I'm here now, aren't I?" He walked over to her.
Minutes pass in silence, the pair staring at each other waiting for the other to say something. The anger in her eyes receded, leaving pain behind.
"I thought you had died," she said slowly, looking into his eyes, "I thought…"
He leaned forward on his cane, "As you can plainly see, I am still alive." He grinned at her.
"Are you going to stay this time?" she asked.
He doesn't respond, but the grin quickly disappears from his face, replaced by a much more somber expression.
"Are you going to stay?!" she asked again with force.
"I can only stay for the night, and even then you won't see me come morning." He replied despondently.
"Then why are you here?" she asked quietly.
"I had to see if you were okay… after what… what happened on that rooftop." He said plainly.
She said nothing for several minutes, letting her anger dissipate.
"You knew it was me and you still had her fight me?"
He shook his head, "I didn't know. Not until she told me afterwards."
She sighed and thought for a few minutes, "So… all we have is tonight?"
He nodded.
"Well… if we only have tonight, we had better make the best of it," she said, taking him by the arm and pulling him towards the front door.
He smiled and followed her out into the night.
She crawled out of bed the next morning, stiff and sore from a night on the town, only to find a note on the pillow next to her.
Glynda,
I'm sorry for those three years of silence… those three years that you thought I was dead.
Maybe I'll be able to stay by your side... some day… But I want you to remember that I love you.
Yours,
R. T.
