Can...you ever forgive me?" He said after long minutes, the words holding years of torture and sadness. His chest heaved as he did his best to hold onto the last remnants of his control. He did not want to just break before her, he wanted to try and be strong, for reasons unknown to him...he wanted to be someone she could run to, someone who she could lean on when she wanted to be weak.

But all of those thoughts fled his mind when he felt her return the embrace, his eyes snapped wide open as a gasp escaped his lips. As if the well had suddenly broke, releasing the emotion he'd been holding in for years, he let out a weak cry, his shoulders shaking as he began to sob. For the first time in so long...he was allowing himself to cry. Tears of pain, tears of sadness...strangely tears of joy...rolling down his cheeks as he held onto her.

He felt so weak...so pathetic...so...human. A mental image of his mother flashed before his eyes...and suddenly his fathers words traveled to his mind. Words he had told Vergil when they had been out shopping and Vergil, seeing a little girl crying had said something so odd and cruel.

"Weak girl. What has she a reason to cry? Pathetic."

His father had given him a look of utter disbelief, almost as if he couldn't understand why his son had said that. But he sighed, knelt down and looked into his son's eyes.

"My son...humans are not weak...nor are they pathetic. Their life spans may be shorter than our own. But they possess something I do not have. But you and your brother are lucky to have."

Again he said something his father couldn't believe.

"What could they possibly have that we don't?"

He sighed before making his son look into his eyes, narrowing the purplish blue orbs sternly. "They possess a will unlike anything you will ever know. Humans are more greedy and strong willed then any other creature you will ever know. But because of that greed, they have gained many things that other creators want. Hearts, souls, humanity and the ability to show compassion. Love. You and Dante has been blessed...given this gift thanks to your mother. Be grateful." ?

He shook his head, pulling himself from the memory as he pulled back, oddly calmer now, he kept his eyes downcast, sifting through his thoughts before he found the strength to look up at her.
