The first time that they met was on a Wednesday while her father was away. It was a beautiful fall day, but just too chilly for frolicking in the fields of wildflowers. Five-year-old Theodosia was playing with her dolls with her mother on the parlor floor when a crisp October breeze cut into the toasty room. Both Theodosia's looked up to see their housemaid letting in a woman.

"Mrs. Hamilton is here for a visit, Madame." Theodosia took in the woman who had just entered her home. She knew that her mother and Mrs. Hamilton were the best of friends and that the two women often met up and would talk, but this was her first time actually meeting the woman. Eliza Hamilton was a fair skinned woman with long dark hair pulled back into a low ponytail. Her chocolate eyes glittered in joy at being able to see her friend. Theodosia rose to her feet along with her mother before bending into an elegant curtsey. When Theodosia stood back up, though, she found a pair of hazel eyes no more than three inches away. Shrieking Theodosia struck out with her arm on reflex before running behind her mother.

"Philip Hamilton!" Theodosia peeked out from behind her mother's skirt to see a boy with insanely curly hair rising to his feet while trying to staunch the blood that was coming from his nose.

"I didn't mean to scare her Ma! I promise! I just wanted ta' meet her!" Eliza rolled her eyes at her rambunctious son as Theodosia senior stifled a laugh.

"Apologize right now to young miss Theodosia." The boy, Philip, turned to face the hiding girl. With a smile that could light up a room and a bow so low that it was a miracle he didn't fall on his still leaking nose, Philip began to speak.

"I am most sincerely sorry for my well-meaning action. It was not my intention to scare you, miss." Theodosia blushed at the boy and mumbled out a statement of forgiveness. The older Theodosia looked at Eliza with a smile in her eyes before turning to her daughter.

"Theo, by darling, how about you take Philip to the wash room to clean up his face, hmm?" Theodosia nodded her head and reached out a delicate hand that grasped Philip's forearm. The young girl silently led the boy deeper into the house.

"Wow what a pretty house! I bet you could play a great game of hide-and –seek in here. Do girls play hide-and-seek? I guess that you would, after all it's a great game- Hey! Was that a piano in there? Gosh, I love playing the piano. My mom taught me, though I always change the line. Whatever. Hey did you know- "

"Were here" Theodosia said with a smile. She enjoyed the rambunctious boy's rambling, but it was time to take care of his nose. He walked in and plopped down on the toilet seat as Theodosia wetted a rag. She turned and began to dab at the blood stain above his lip. Philip sat in silence while she worked. However, when she was done the boy decided to break his vow of silence.

"You should come play with me sometime. You got a nice arm on ya', ya' know that? You should play ball with that arm. One heck of a swinger-" He mimicked swinging a bat as he stood from the toilet and moved to join Theodosia at the doorway. The two met up with their mothers and began to play while the women talked. After about four hours, Eliza regretfully said that she and Philip had to get home. As the women said their goodbyes, Theodosia saddled up to Philip's side sheepishly.

"I never said it earlier, but I'm sorry I punched you." Philip grinned at her with a set of dazzling pearly whites.

"Don't worry about it." And just like that, with frantic waving, he was being pulled out of her house. Theodosia smiled thinking about what a fun afternoon she had had with him. She hoped that she would see him in the future.
