"You know, I'm curious," Edward mused, peering over the back of the couch, and down to my current location on the ground. I had landed flat on my back, after tripping over the new rug Charlie had brought home.
I stayed on the ground, closing my eyes as I breathed in. "About what?" I asked, hoping that he wouldn't make a joke about my clumsiness.
Edward was standing over me in a flash, his cold hands lifting me to a standing position. His dark golden eyes were sparkling in amusement. "How you've avoided becoming a walking bruise." He kissed just below my jaw, making me shiver. "It just seems impossible that you never bruise."
The words tumbled out of my mouth before I could stop them. "I bruise. Just not in places that show." I clapped my hand over my mouth when I realized what I had said, and blushed to the tips of my ears. Edward chuckled as I leaned my head into his chest. "Oh Bella," he whispered into my ear. "This shade of red is lovely on you…"
