It was screaming at
me…yelling in this high-pitched excruciating voice that echoed against the
walls and infiltrated my mind…it wouldn't let up…it wouldn't stop…it wouldn't
let me think…it was the most terrifying sound that has prevailed through all of
time. It was…
Silence…
I forced my eyes open, the lids sticking for just a second
before my pupils contracted at the sudden flood of light. I blinked…kept blinking. Why was everything blurred? I lifted my hands to my face, not noticing
the dried blood that stained my pale skin and tarnished my wedding ring. My cheeks were wet…silent tears falling
unnoticed. I was hurting…but I couldn't
tell where. My chest ached, a dull pain
drifting through my body and out to my limbs and extremities. Squeezing my eyes shut, I rubbed at them
with my index fingers…wiping away the tears that refused to let my eyes
focus.
The walls were a pure white and it hurt my eyes to look at
them, the artificial light reflecting down on me. On me. I finally looked
at myself, unable to suppress a gasp at my bloodied appearance.
Leo.
My gasp converted to a muffled cry, a sob catching in my
throat as I realised whose arms I lay cradled in. "Leo!
Leo!" I think I was
screaming but it could have been a whisper.
I gripped his hand that lay across my stomach, squeezing it…willing it
to produce a reaction.
The reaction came.
He mumbled something incomprehensible and his hand tightened around
mine. "Piper?" The word came through clearly and he was
suddenly alert and sitting up, gently moving me with him. "Honey, are you okay?" His words were tender, breaking the silence
in the most comforting way.
"I don't know."
I was honest with him, I didn't know but guilt filled me when his
forehead creased in concern. I felt his
hands run over me, checking my skin for exposed wounds and broken limbs.
Content that I was functional, if only barely, he pulled me
closer to him and pressed a kiss to my temple.
"Think you're up to orbing?"
I nodded vigorously, desperate to leave this small hellish room. With our foreheads joined, blue lights
surrounded us and for a few seconds I felt weightless, the pain was gone and
only sweet thoughts prevailed. Then we
were in the manor and Leo was laying me down on our bed, his gentle touch bringing
the smallest of smiles to my face.
His hands lingered over me and light surrounded me. The same feeling of weightlessness overcame
me, and my mind cleared. The pain
disappeared and my body suddenly felt stronger, the muscles functional although
my energy severely lacking. Joining me
on the bed, Leo laid down beside me, pulling me into his arms calming me with
his soft kisses.
Hours passed and we lay in each other's arms…relaxed and
content.
It was whispering at me…singing to me in this soft sensual
voice. Tender words drifting to my ears
mixed solely with a gentle rhythmic beat.
It was soothing…It was the perfect lullaby…it was heaven's touch. It was…
Silence…
