Dick sat bolt upright, tears escaping his eyes. The dark shadows that danced around the manor walls were no comfort. He hadn't experienced anything this bad for 4 years. He glanced over to the clock. It was only 2:30am. Everyone would be asleep by then. Except maybe one person...

"Hello?" Wally said groggily down the phone. He rubbed his face in an attempt to wake himself up a little more.

"Hey Wally, it's Dick." Wally knew something was up because of the way Dick's voice sounded over the phone. He sounded just like the scared little boy he had first met. This confused him; Dick hadn't acted like this for a long time.

"Oh hi, Dick. What do you want at 2:30 in the morning?" He asked, his voice tinged with annoyance.

"Sorry. It's just... I had a nightmare" Dick's voice came softly down the phone. Wally was now fully awake.

"It's ok, I'll be right over." He hung up the phone. Hurriedly, he pulled on some jeans and sped out of the house.

Dick waited at the door of the manor. Within 2 minutes Wally appeared on the doorstep. Quietly, Dick let him in and the two boys made their way back up to Dick's room. The pair got comfortable and sat in silence for a few moments. Wally then spoke up.

"So what was this nightmare about?" He asked gently. He glanced over to look at Dick. The younger boy had a few tears rolling down his cheeks.

"It was... about my family" Dick said, voice shaking. Wally's eyes widened and he reached over to hug him. Dick felt comforted by Wally's embrace.

"Do you want to talk about it?" Wally asked. He felt Dick's head nodding against his shoulder. The room was silent for a moment longer before Dick sniffled and began to speak.

"I dreamt about the night they died. But this time..." He stopped mid sentence and began to cry again.

"But this time?" Wally prompted softly.

"But this time my mother reached out her hand, and I could have saved her. She was so close, but I didn't grab her in time. This time, Bruce Wayne wasn't there to take me in... and then Tony Zucco killed the others, too." His voice caught on that last part and he pulled himself in closer to Wally. His tears were leaving a wet mark on Wally's shirt. But he didn't mind. Wally softly stroked Dick's hair, rocking him.

"Shh, it's okay... it's okay... it was just a bad dream..." Wally whispered to Dick. He kissed the smaller boy on top of his head and pulled him in tighter.

"I didn't tell you the worst part" Dick whispered back. He looked up at Wally, tears welling up in his eyes once again. Wally's eyes widened at the thought of there being a worst part.

"What was that?" He asked. He wasn't sure he wanted to know.

"You were there. You saw everything... you didn't love me." Dick buried his head into Wally's chest, clutching at the fabric of his shirt. Wally's jaw dropped at the idea of him not loving Dick. It wasn't possible.

"That could never happen" Wally tried his best to comfort the crying boy in his lap. His comforting skills were thrown a little because he himself was slightly shaken by the thought. Dick looked back up at Wally to see his nightmare had troubled the older boy.

"I'm sorry..." he mumbled into Wally's shirt.

"It's ok" Wally replied. The two of them sat in silence, holding and comforting each other. After a while, Dick sat up and looked into Wally's eyes.

"Promise me you'll always love me?" he asked. Wally didn't even hesitate.

"I promise."
