Sam felt comforted in her bed. It was her safe haven. It was where she could dream in her own world. Sam could create an alternate universe where she could escape from reality and the past never existed.
What was she thinking when she kissed him? Did she have any idea of what it would do to her? How it would affect their relationship? Her mind? Her heart?
She was scared of what he would say. What he would think. What he would do. Would he laugh? And the question she was too scared to ask herself: Would he love her back? She could not face the world. Not today. Not with him standing there by the door, awaiting her every move.
She knew she was sending out mixed signals, but that's just how Sam Puckett rolled. One minute she was punching him and bickering over the slightest thing, the next kissing him. But that's just how Sam was: and you either loved or hated her for it.
Freddie stood outside the heavy oak doors that lead Ridgeway High. It's a completely different world in there. All those kids seem to be robotically controlled, Freddie thought. They- his thoughts were cut off by the sudden image of Sam Puckett.
He had noticed she wasn't at school that day, and it worried him. Freddie hoped she was ok. Surprisingly, he missed her taunts and teases. It hit him suddenly: she wasn't there because of the kiss. She was scared, just like he was.
Ever since the *ahem* EVENT that had happened between them, all Freddie could think about was Sam and the eight simple seconds that changed both their lives forever. Caught up in the heat of the moment, he was so hypnotized by her and the suddenness of her actions he could barely speak. Now, he hated himself for it. She had been daring, bold, and brave all while being strikingly beautiful. And she had taken a chance: a gamble with love. She had left all sense of danger behind. She had kissed him.
And what had he said? What had he done? Replied, "it's ok." like what she had done was a mistake. He feared the worst: that Sam would come marching in here and act as if it never happened. He decided he would skip school, just this once. Freddie knew he wouldn't be able to concentrate on his schoolwork. Not with her out there, all alone and confused.
Freddie needed time to sort out his feelings. He needed some time to clear his head. Some time to see her. To talk to her. To explain to her what had happened, and what he really felt. This time, he would say more than just "It's ok." Shoving his hands into his pockets, Freddie headed to the one place he knew she would be.
