Short, kind of angsty, but I hope you'll like it anyway.
I have to thanks Ingvild who once again helps me for the grammar. You rock girl!

Something beyond

The ruffle of the sheets being tossed aside was the only sound that could be heard. Relena looked at Heero as he rolled away from her and stood up. He wouldn't sleep with her; he had to get back to his duty, to his job.

And even if he could perfectly protect her from the inside of her room, of her bed, he wouldn't stay. He never would.

Feeling a bit cold with the loss of his body beside her, Relena gripped the blanket and pulled it over her breasts as she sat up.

She watched him putting his clothes back on and the movement of the muscles of his back mesmerized her.

She bit her lip to keep back a sigh.

His body, only lit by the moonlight, seemed even more gorgeous now and if she hadn't just had her way with him, she would want him right here and now.

He turned around, as if feeling her stare and the shadow of a smile played on his lips as he looked at her. She was so beautiful with messy blond tresses all over her shoulders, red cheeks and glossy eyes from their activities.

He opened his mouth, ready to say something, to ask her something, but no sound escaped.

A quick glance at the pillow beside her, a question in his dark blue eyes, quickly replaced by the void of nothingness he had to show for both their sake. In the blink of an eye, the spell was broken.

Relena knew she couldn't refuse anything if he asked, whether it was only staying with her for the night in secret or something huge like making an official announcement of their relationship. But he never would. He had no right to.

She was the Foreign Minister, working hard to maintain peace between Earth and the colonies and he was a Preventer, a special agent who worked in shadows to destroy every threat against her and her goal.

Of course, he had to pretend to be her bodyguard, the man who risked his very life for her every day. And he was indeed, but he didn't see it that way.

It was not for her. Not as a human being. He would do the same for any other one in her place. Or so he said.

They both knew how false it was, but they never admitted it.

As he put on his shirt, he only told her: "I don't love you, you know."

He always had to clarify, as if she didn't already know it. There was no love between them. They were not friends.

He sat down on the mattress to put on his shoes and Relena couldn't resist the urge to come closer.

Wrapping her arms around his middle, she laid her head on his shoulder blade and whispered: "I don't love you either."

Her voice didn't betray anything, it was soft and gentle as always. She wasn't lying, she never was. Not with him. Not with anyone. That was what he admired so much about her.

She stayed there, in a complete silence, only listening to the regular beating of his heart. Heero made no move to pull away; he enjoyed every second of her embrace and went as far as taking one of her hands in his to kiss her knuckles.

A small smile appeared on Relena lips and she snuggled closer.

"You're tired. You should sleep," he said in a low voice, but didn't release her.

"Yeah, but I like too much being like that…" she answered in a very sleepy voice. She yawned and pulled away. His heartbeat always soothed her. It was better than any lullaby.

Heero turned to look at her, tucked the sheet and the cover up to her chin and before realising what he was doing, he kissed her on the lips.

"Goodnight."

"Goodnight, Heero."

The smile was still on her lips as he closed the door behind him. He shook his head to clear it, but to no avail.

He didn't love her. Oh no.

It was far more than that.
