It was a peaceful moment, those 10 minutes before my alarm would inevitably go off. I clutched my pillow as the minutes suddenly began to go by rapidly and then, bleep, bleep, bleep!
"Neil, get up!"
I acknowledged my Mom who always seems to wake me up even more with a simple grunt.
I sat up and looked at the calendar beside my bed, today I went to another new school, the proverbial Degrassi.
I did the usual, took a shower, brushed my teeth, got dressed, and ate breakfast before setting off for school in my brand new 350z that my Dad had bought me. Being the CEO of a major corporation had benefits and getting nice cars for your kid was one of them.
The cars were good but it also meant that I'd be moving a lot, luckily I was a senior this year and I'd be guaranteed to graduate.
The drive to Degrassi was pretty long, I would've been going to a place called Lakehurst but something happened to their school and all of their students were being forced to attend Degrassi.
When I pulled up I noticed a group of students huddled together and heard some commotion emitting from the cluster. I parked and got out of my car to see what was up.
Some blond haired kid named Johnny Demarko was the source of what appeared to be trouble.
"Degrassi sucks" taunted Johnny as he pushed Degrassi freshmen to the ground.
"What's your problem?" asked a Degrassi senior named Spinner as he emerged from the crowd and approached Johnny.
"Careful Degrassi, don't want to end up like James do we?"
Spinner's face turned red and anger could be seen in his eyes. I didn't know why but all the Degrassi students looked pissed and ready to fight when Johnny made that comment about some "James" guy.
"I advise you get out of here, now!" roared Spinner.
"Make me" replied Johnny as he spat on the ground next to Spinner.
Spinner lost it and pushed Johnny into one of his goons.
I noticed a blond haired woman walking pretty fast towards the cluster of rivals.
"That's enough! Classes are starting!" she yelled as she motioned the students to head in.
I stood in place and watched as the students obeyed and exchanged choice words as they departed.
"Are you deaf?" she asked.
I was shocked to realize that she was talking to me, "Um, no ma'am" I replied.
"Are you a Lakehurst student?" she asked.
"No ma'am, I mean I was supposed to be but I ended up having to go here, I'm Neil Funderburk my family just moved here last week"
"I'm sorry Neil, it's just with all this school violence and the two schools merging its been one big hassle"
"Its okay ma'am I understand"
"Thank you Neil, well I suppose I better get you someone to give you a tour of our school and show you around"
"That'd be nice" I replied.
She looked around and spotted a young man in a wheelchair.
"Jimmy, over here please" she called out to him.
"Yes Mrs. H?" asked the boy called Jimmy.
"Jimmy Brooks this is Neil, Neil this is Jimmy" said Mrs. H
"Hey what's up?" asked Jimmy as he shook my hand.
"Hi how are you" I replied.
"Well you two have fun and I'm Mrs. H by the way Neil, and if you need me feel free to stop by my office"
"Thanks ma'am" I replied as Mrs. H left.
"Alright let's go"
"Okay, but before we go can I ask you something?"
"Sure"
"If it's about how I got in the wheelchair" began Jimmy.
"No, not that, I wanted to ask you who James was"
"James? You mean JT?" asked Jimmy.
"I guess so"
"He was a student who went here last year, and was in the center of the Degrassi-Lakehurst rivalry"
"Does he not go here anymore or something?" I asked.
"Um, no he doesn't. He was killed last year by this Lakehurst guy" replied Jimmy as he looked down, seemingly a little upset at remembering.
"I'm sorry, are you alright?" I asked.
"Yeah, I'm good, let's start the tour" replied Jimmy as he lead the way.
