The carnage of the Mandalorian Wars felt far away for Kavar even as former students followed Revan and Malak to war. He understood why many left but felt as a member of the Jedi Council that it was wrong to disobey the Councils decision to not get involved. As he lay out on the grassy plains outside the Jedi Enclave in Dantooine he felt her approach. She was a beacon of light in the force for him, forbidden to him by the Jedi code. That didn't matter to them for Master Kavar, Jedi weapon master and Council Member had found love with Jedi Nicola Rez. As she walked toward him he felt a small disturbance in her and was concerned.

"Kavar, why am I not surprised to see you here looking up at the stars." she teased him as she lay next to him relishing his warmth.

"You know me to well my dear, this is supposed to my secret area to meditate and enjoy the beauty the force has given us." Kavar teased back as he pulled Nicola into his arms.

He felt complete as she lay her head on his shoulder and wrapped her arm around him, snuggling into him looking for comfort and something else. He could tell she was tense just by the feel of her against him and he felt dread that she was going to tell him something that he did not want to hear. Looking down on her beauty he saw the silent tears running down her cheeks and knew this night was going to chance them forever.

Lifting her chin up and wiping away the tears he dared to ask, "Nicola, my love what is wrong that you have been brought to tears? Tell me and let me help."

She could not look her lover in the eye and spoke the words both of them did not want to hear, "I am leaving to join Revan in the morning. I am sorry Kavar, I don't want to leave you but I can't stand aside and do nothing anymore."

With those words Kavar's world came crashing down around him. He was already in violation of the Jedi code by taking Nicola into his bed and falling in love, but now he was going to lose her to the war. He looked into her eyes seeing the sorrow and the pain that this decision had brought her but also saw the determination that was very much her. He realized that he would be unable to change her mind and that was a painful realization. Knowing that he may never see her again, or if he did she may have turned to the dark side he made the vow to savor this night for the rest of his life.

"I am guessing there is no way to change your mind from going is there my love?" Kavar asked in a sad and solemn tone

"You know the answer before you asked that Kavar, my mind is made up and I am not going to change it. However I don't want to think of that right now, I want to enjoy this night for it will be our last together my love." Nicola replied with a glint in her eyes.

Seeing the glint Kavar knew what she had planned and despite the pain vowed to enjoy whatever the night brought and to not think of what the morning brought. Rolling Nicola onto her back, he smiled as he looked down on his lover. He slowly brought his mouth and pulled her into a kiss that left no doubt as to what he had planned for the reminder of the night.

"Shall we moved this my quarters my love?" Kavar asked breathless

In the morning Kavar woke to an empty bed knowing she had left and knew that his world was changed forever. Would he see her again, would she survive the brutal war, would she be strong enough to not fall to the dark side. As he dressed he felt one last wave through the force from her and knew whatever happened she loved him and for now that was enough.
