short and (hopefully) sweet. i essentially just wanted to write a short fic about lily and james, capturing their love with ... i dunno ... straight forward emotion. i have no idea when this takes place... and i doubt james every played the piano. i dont know where this takes place, either, cuz the doorbell? they're obviously not at Hogwarts. you'll know what i mean when you read. then review. it helps. you too. ill stop talking, cuz i dont make sense anymore...

Lily followed the enchanting sound. She turned the corner, and saw James playing a piano, his back straight, but such emotion flowing through his body and coursing down his fingers into the keys, that Lily could immediately feel what he did through the music he was creating.

She stood in the doorway, listening as he played.

When he finished with a lingering closure, Lily spoke. "Where did you learn to play like that?"

James spun around so fast, she was surprised his head didn't come flying off. "Oh!" he said. "I didn't know anyone was here."

"Sorry. I just – I heard you playing, and, well." She smiled sheepishly. "That was amazing, James."

"Thanks," he replied, returning her smile. She had never called him that before.

There was a small awkward silence before Lily timidly asked, "Will you play another one, for me?"

James starred at her, stunned before stupidly nodding his head. "Uh- yeah … yeah! Uh, sure."

Lily sat down on the couch and watched as James played his redolent piano, his fingers dancing magically across the keyboard, telling a story of their own. He could feel her eyes on his back, and somehow, it made it easier for him to play. He had never been able to perform for anyone, much less this intimidating figure, but her presence was quite different from most he knew. James knew that he would never be able to play for Remus or Sirius or Peter, but there sat Lily, listening to him as if there were no other sounds in the world.

The doorbell eventually rang, but James kept playing and Lily kept listening. She wouldn't get up until he had finished his song.
