"Matsumoto."

"For heaven's sake, Matsumoto, just get up." Matsumoto woke up to find her captain staring down on her, something that didn't happen often. "Taichou? Is something wrong?"

"Yes, Matsumoto, something is wrong. The fact that you find it's all right to sleep when there's a stack of reports on my desk waiting to be filled out. Now, please get to work!" Hitsugaya scolded. Reluctantly, Matsumoto got up off the couch and headed over to her desk. As she picked up her pen and started to write, she noticed her captain staring at her. "Is something wrong, taichou?"

"Not with me, but maybe with you. You never listen to my orders, particularly when it comes to paperwork. I feel kind of odd asking you, but what's wrong? You don't seem, and I'm gonna hate myself for saying this, but you don't seem as "perky" as you usually are. So, what's bothering you?" Hitsugaya asked. Matsumoto was surprised; usually her young captain didn't interfere with what was bothering her, particularly with the matters of her heart.

"Uh, well, you see…"
"Does it have to do with Gin leaving?" Hitsugaya asked. Matsumoto looked up.

"Well, yes, it does, you see," started Matsumoto, looking back down at her desk, "I was always close to Gin, but when he left, it made me feel like…like I wasn't good enough for him. It made me really upset, even though I don't always look it…"

"I think your pretty, Matsumoto…" Hitsugaya chimed in. Matsumoto looked up again. "Huh? I appreciate the comment, taichou, but I never said he didn't make me feel pretty…" she pointed out. Hitsugaya blushed.

"Uh well, that too. The bottom line is, you shouldn't let him get to you. He didn't leave because he didn't like you; he left because he thought being true to that butt-hole Aizen was more important than you. I think, if he were given a second chance, he'd pick you, Matsumoto. But think about it, if he was really worth fretting over, he would have stayed with you in the first place. So no more moping, got that?" Hitsugaya commanded. Matsumoto blinked before getting up from her desk and going over to her snowy-haired boss. She came up behind his chair and leaned down, giving him a little kiss on the cheek. "Thanks, Captain. I have a feeling you really meant it…" she said, giving him one last smile as she skipped out the door. Hitsugaya allowed himself a little smile, just for a minute, before he noticed something. "Hey! Matsumoto!" he yelled after his subordinate, "Get back here and finish that paperwork!"

……….

A few words:

1. I tried to imply that Hitsugaya has a crush on Matsumoto, even if it doesn't seem like it.

2. I used the word "fretting" in honor of my old Social Studies teacher, whom I miss very much…

3. It wasn't a trick; Matsumoto really was upset about Gin.

4. Who knew Hitsugaya gave such good girl advice…
