Just a random idea I had. The Warden and Hawke seem to have companions with similar personalities.

Varric couldn't believe his eyes. In his hands was a letter from the Hero of Ferelden, meant specifically for him. Upon the letter were the words: The List for a Hero. Varric chuckled madly as he opened the letter.

Varric,

You asked me how I became "The Hero of Ferelden." Well I'll tell you the secret to my success. Any good hero needs a precise list of companions to help them along the way.

A hero cannot go into battle without their trusty dwarf. Only a dwarf can give undying loyalty when their hero faces the tough decisions no one else can make. Every hero knows their dwarf will stand beside them through the Fade and Archdemon's fire. Plus, the hero will need their dwarf to do what any dwarf can do, drink the rest of us poor sods under the table.

A hero cannot go into battle without their storyteller. It is the storyteller who sees everything, yet tells the people what they need to see of their hero. It doesn't hurt if that storyteller can sing or entertain while the rest of us are falling down drunk either.

A hero cannot go into battle without their broody companion. This companion will have measurable experience on the battlefield and become vital in a fight, but most of all a broody companion will shoot down all the hero's craze schemes. Even if the hero agrees with the broody companion that doesn't mean the hero is granted approval. It just means the hero might stand a chance if the broody companion decides to go on a killing spree.

A hero cannot go into battle without their perverted sidekick. A hero will need their perverted sidekick to cheer things up when things look down. The hero's sidekick may pretend to have no heart, but they have the biggest heart of all, if one is willing to look deep, deep, down (and past all the sexual innuendos).

A hero cannot go into battle without their witch. The witch may be as evil as a demon, but the party just wouldn't be the same without her. It is she who the hero can rely on for truth of opinion. Better not ask the witch about moral opinion though; don't want to get turned into a frog for actually having morals and standards.

A hero cannot go into battle without their faithful hound. The faithful hound will give the hero undying love and loyalty, as long as the hero feeds it treats and scratch behind its ears. How could a hero go into battle without their hound with the ability to rip men's throats out?

A hero cannot go into battle without their wise mentor. This mentor will help the hero see the best solution for everyone, and will not hesitate to voice their opinion if they think the hero did not choose well. The hero's mentor will love their young hero as a mother her child. And if their hero is running off course, they will nag them back on.

A hero cannot go into battle without their brother (or sister)-in-arms. This brother will be immature and will not be up for the challenge ahead of the hero, but they will whine and stand behind the hero. This brother will leave everything up to the hero, but complain about the hero's opinions. Through all of this whining, the hero will still love their brother, and will not hesitate to retaliate whenever possible.

I hope this helped.
