My friends & I decide to write up a 30 day challenge for one single fandom of our choice, and I picked Ninjago. We all did. But in the mist of writing our first day, we realized one was missing, and decided to make it a 31 day challenge.

Enjoy!

Ninjago 30 Day Challenge

Day One: Dream

As a kid, Cole had many dreams. He had dreams being a great lumberjack, he had dreams about finishing school and settling down. Maybe having a wife and a few kids to increase the Hence family tree. But what he didn't dream of being was an ninja. Certainly not being the Master of Earth as well.

So when destiny called for him and his powers of Earth, Cole spent the longest time ignoring what Sensei Wu said. He didn't want to believe he was special, he didn't want to believe he was holding the fate of the city in his hands. He didn't want to believe any of it because he wanted to be normal. His wish quickly turned into another set of a dream for him.

Cole was going to keep that dream as long as he lived… or until he had met Jay Walker. Apparently, Jay had the same problem as him, being called the Master of Lightning, and Cole felt a bit better knowing someone could help him with the fate of their city. Then came Zane, and then Kai and his sister. Finally, along came Lloyd. The very one they had to protect the most, and Cole frowned.

Surely Lloyd could handle this all on his own, right?

Cole had his own dreams. He wanted to keep that alive by becoming what he wanted as a child, and a lumberjack was sounding wonderfully better than being an ninja.

"I hate being a ninja," he told Jay one night. "I don't like being in possible danger. It scares me."

Jay just stared before gulping down his own fear of being told different from what he dreamed of being. "I know." he nodded. "I wanted to be like my parents, but now that isn't happening. Just… having these powers, is not making my life better. I can't be myself anymore."

"Being myself?" Cole whispered out, closing his eyes. "I can't remember what that feels like anymore. Dancing away like my dad wanted me too. Settling down with a nice lady and having two kids… my dreams seem far away now."

Jay could only agree. "Yeah, they do." he turned on his side away from Cole, but still looked over his shoulder at him. His face a bit red. "What are your dreams now? Do you still want to settle down and have kids?"

"More than anything," Cole sighed. "But, I think…" It was his turn to move to his side away from Jay, in order to keep Jay from seeing hs bright red face. "I think I found a new dream I want to keep."

"Oh?" Jay blinked. "What is it?"

"N-Nothing you can know." Cole quickly replied, hoping Jay wouldn't notice his quick pace of speaking now. "We've got our own dreams. Sometimes, those don't need to be shared with others."

Jay nodded, a bit sad. "Okay. I get it. You don't want to share, and you don't have to."

"Maybe one day I'll tell you," Cole said with a small smile.

But for now, he couldn't risk what he had with Jay, and his new dream could wait for the moment when he was ready to tell his best friend everything.

His new dream?

To, eventually, confess to Jay about his feelings.
