Just a drabble I came up with watching episode 2 of Yugioh Duel Monsters. I needed to update, anyway.

Solomon Motou was not a cruel man, nor did he derive any pleasure in causing suffering to other people. But right at this moment, a certain sleep-deprived blonde would disagree with those statements. If he was awake enough to form coherent thought, that is. Joey stared mindlessly at the cards in front of him, not really listening to Solomon's lesson as he contemplated how wonderful his duvet seemed. A cane suddenly rapped hard on the back of his hand, momentarily shocking him into wakefulness. 'Are you listening to me, Joseph?' the alarmingly scary man demanded.

'Yeah, yeah.' Joey mumbled, eyes drooping again. A second sharp rap soon remedied that.

'Well then, which card in front of you would best defend against the Dark Magician?' Dark Magician, what was that again? Joey's worn brain felt like soggy cake - falling apart in lumps. Summoning his wits, he looked at the five options he had and pointed to the second one.

Solomon sighed, seeing his apprentice had selected Basic Insect. 'That's it!' he declared suddenly, loosing any temper he may have possessed. 'No more rest periods until you're at tournament level!'

Joey actually whimpered at that.

A few days after this, Yugi, Tea and Tristan entered the small training room to see how their friend was doing whilst Solomon sorted out a stocking order. Tristan snickered slightly; Joey's head was resting in his folded arms, fast asleep. Rolling her eyes, Tea stepped forwards and jabbed him hard in the side. The blonde let out a sleepy murmur and twitched away from the unwanted stimulus, but didn't wake up.

Solomon re-entered the room, and his violet eyes narrowed dangerously. 'Tristan, my boy?' he asked in a tone that sounded calm at first, but came off as rather sadistic. 'Would you please drag my "dear student" up to the bathroom?' Before the brunet could ask why, the elderly man had already left, going up the stairs. Shrugging, he approached and hooked his arms under Joey's, lifting him out of the chair and manoeuvring him out of the room.

Joey was so tired he didn't even process that he was been half carried, half dragged to the Motou's downstairs bathroom. Solomon was standing beside the shower unit, wearing a smile that bordered on malicious. Yugi took one look at the dial settings, and decided to never sleep when his grandpa needed a favour.

Tristan smirked a little, and unceremoniously tossed his friend under the freezing spray. Joey came awake with a gasp. A mistake, as he took in a mouthful of the unfiltered water. Spitting it out, his hand groped for the dial, turning the horrible wetness off. He looked at Solomon with undiluted hatred, and removed his sopping jacket, letting it smack wetly against the tiled floor. The elderly man gave the furious - but wide awake - blonde a self satisfied smile. 'Ready to continue your lessons?' he asked innocently.

Ooh, if looks could kill.

Yay, first Yugioh fic! *Puts on Yugi's Puppy-Dog-Eyes-Of-Doom* (so powerful they deserve capitals). I DARE YOU TO DISAGREE! No, I'm not random, I just think fast.
