The little rabbit already had tears streaming down his soft cheeks, but when the wolf appeared it only made the stream flow faster. His little legs spread out in front of him and he only wore a little white night shirt. Her almost white hair cascaded around her. She whimpered as the tall wolf looked to her. He frowned and his one of his ears flickered in surprise.
The rabbit's little hands dug into the dirt between her legs in fear and his long rabbit ears waved back. His crimson eyes were wide. The wolf frowned even deeper and the rabbit began to quiver. Karoku had told him what the wolves did. Karoku had told him stories about how wolves ate little rabbits like him. The wolf looked around the small clearing, but saw no one amongst the trees. How disappointing.
The wolf bent down and lifted up the little rabbit. He shook with fear, but the big wolf didn't seem to notice. He considered screaming but her voice was to tight. The wolf's eyes scraped up and down her small figure. He could hear very clearly the rabbits small whimpering cries. He tried to wipe her tears away with his tiny muddy hands. The wolf scoffed at her disapprovingly.
The wolf held him gently to his shoulder and patted the rabbits back, he was a baby. He lent his head to the side so that it rested on his soft rabbit ears. The wolf hoped it was a soothing gesture. The little rabbit clung to his soft jacket and her salty tears formed a wet patch on the black fabric. He heard his disapproving grunt.
"Tsk tsk tsk" he tutted, almost to himself "Such a light weight thing like you, your going to freeze to death before anyone finds you and eats you" he rubbed on his back with a clawed hand. His long nails drew lines on his shoulder blades. The rabbit hiccuped a strangled sob and closed her eyes tight. She would of been shaking had the wolf not been holding him so tightly.
"B-but you're a wolf" stuttered the rabbit"Aren't you going to eat me?" The wolf laughed bitterly and he could feel his chest vibrating under him. Rain started to stain his lovely white hair and he shivered. The wolf brought the rabbit away from his shoulder. He held him under his arms. The little rabbit held his hands to his chest, his tears still dripping down his cheeks. He frowned at her.
"How rude" said the wolf "Who said anything about eating a rabbit like you?" The little rabbit's eyes widened and the wolf lifted him above his head. "I couldn't make a good meal out of you if I tried" at that point the little rabbit started to bawl. He wailed and sniffled, but not at the wolf. Instead he reached his hands towards him, his little hands opening and shutting for him. He brought him back to his shoulder and he wrapped his grubby little hands around his neck. The little rabbit buried his sobs into the wolf's collar bone. He smiled to himself and wrapped his arms around the rabbits tiny form. Slowly he began to walk wondering to himself what on earth he was getting himself into.
