Ten years. It didn't seem that long ago.
They were friends. Partners in arms. And even lovers. But time had changed them. It was time to join the real world. It was time to grow up. This was no longer play time with the bad guys. There were consequences to actions made.
He made his way up the front steps of the law firm. Another day, another case.
He glanced up seeing a flash of red. His heart skipped a beat.
So long had passed but he knew her. He would always know her.
"Kim?" He called, seeing the woman in the brown pencil skirt and olive jacket falter in her graceful gate up the stairs.
She turned; green eyes glancing down at him in surprise.
"Ron?" She asked surprised, an edge of impossible hopes clinging to her voice.
He smiled shrugging.
The woman's eyes began to sparkle with tears as she turned around, dashing down the stairs and throwing her arms around his neck.
"My gods it's been forever!" She choked, sniffling slightly.
He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her in close.
He bent his head into the crook of her neck.
"It's been too long "he whispered back hoarsely. "I miss you. I miss the twins. I miss us. "
Tears streamed down her face. "I wish going back was an option, if it meant doing it all over again with you." She cried.
"The hardest part of it all was leaving you." He whispered sadly.
He wiped the messed hair away from her tear streaked face.
"Goodbye Ms. Stoppable..take care. I love you."
She blinked staring down the stairs hazily. She could've sworn someone had called her, but no one was there.
"I must've been hearing things." She said softly to herself.
Her gaze went right through him.
He watched her turn and continues climbing the stairs up to the law firm.
She had become such a wonderful defence attorney since he left her. She had become stronger and more independent and proud in his absence. It made him miss her only more.
As she entered the building, Ron Stoppable turned away one last time.
Later that night after a hard day at work, Kim returned home. Thanking the sitter and waving farewell, before shutting the door. Peaking quietly in at her two sleeping strawberry blonde twin boys,
she smiled. She had done such a fine job raising them on her own since they were barely two.
She closed the door with a soft click and retreated to he own room for the night.
She crawled in her side of the bed, nestling down. She looked over across the queen sized bed to the night stand opposite her. She smiled sadly, feeling a twinge of loss and heartache twist inside her chest.
Ten years had come and gone. For some it flew. Unfortunately, as powerful a woman she had become in that decade, even saying it crawled seemed too quick a word to express how slow it passed. She still felt broken and crumbling. No rock to lean on in her times of need & strength. All she had was herself to hold onto for support.
Kissing her hand, she leaned over and trailed the tips of her fingers delicately over the gold name plate in the center of the urn. "Goodnight Mr. Stoppable." She whispered before turning out the light and going to sleep.
