Stephanie laid on her unmade bed on her stomach with her head resting in her hands staring at the cordless phone in front of her.
'This is stupid,' she thought, 'just pick up the phone and call him.' It's not like this whole situation was new to her. They'd been off again for a while now but it wasn't the first time. She's had to call him millions of times, but this time, the situation was different. She'd been horrible to him.
Suppose I called you up tonightAnd told you that I love youAnd suppose I said I wanna come back homeAnd suppose I cried and said I finally learned my lessonAnd I'm tired of spending all my time alone
All he'd done was buy her a dresser for the room at his Aunt Rose's house that they shared. The assortment of her clothes had grown over the five months that they'd been 'on again' that he thought that getting her a dresser for her clothes to keep there was a good idea. But she didn't obviously. Just looking at the dresser was like looking at the c-word. A word that she didn't do to well
Commitment.
It's not as if she didn't love him, she did. But the pressure Ranger was putting on her at the time was making her not so sure of her feelings. Ranger didn't do things like buy her dressers. He was the guy that gave her sex, and didn't expect anything long term from her, and she liked that.
At least she thought she did.
If I told you that I realize you're all I ever wantedAnd it's killing me to be so far awayWould you tell me that you love me toAnd when we cry togetherWould you simply laugh at me and say
Ever since her divorce with Dickie, Joe was the only guy she ever dated that actually held potential. He actually seemed to care. She loved him she knew that now, and now the thought of him finding some one new was terrifying her.
She didn't actually know if the rumors were true or not. But she knew one time or the other he would move on, and it wouldn't be anybody else's fault except her own.I told you soOh, I told you soI told you someday you'd come crawling back and asking me to take you inI told you soBut you had to goNow I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two againIf I got down on my knees and told you I was yours foreverWould you get down on yours too and take my handWould we get that old time feelingWould we laugh and cry for hoursThe way we did when our love first began
'Stop being dumb, Stephanie,' she thought, 'just go over to his house, talk it out.'
Would you tell me that you miss me tooAnd that you've been so lonelyAnd that you've waited for the day that I returnedAnd we live and love foreverAnd that I'm your one and onlyWould you say the tables finally turn
'But if I go over there he might slam the door in my face,' she thought sadly, and walked into her kitchen to grab her keys. Closing the door behind her she raced to the stairs, choosing not to take the elevator to conserve time.
Driving the few blocks that separated his house from hers, and let out a sigh when she pulled into his driveway.
Would you say I told you soOh, I told you soI told you someday you'd come crawling back and asking me to take you inI told you soBut you had to goNow I found somebody new and you will never break my heart in two again
The conversation went better then expected. He didn't slam the door in her face but he wasn't all that happy to see her. They yelled for a few minutes. Well actually he yelled, and she listened. She didn't think it was fair for her to yell at him because of what she put him through. It was her fault anyway, so as long as he took her back she'd take what ever he dished out.
But in the end he wanted nothing to do with her.
"You've broken my heart one to many times, Steph," he said, " I can't take it anymore. I'm sorry."
Now I found someone new and you will never break my heart in two again
Song By Carrie Underwood or Randy Travis. Whichever one you like the most I guess. It's the same song.
